 Summary: Responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. Leads and directs the work of the accounting staff and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions.
  • Support budget and forecasting activities.
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Collaborate with the other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Assist the Controller in the daily Cash Management.
  • Ensure the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit
  • Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
  • Document and test relevant internal controls.
  • Liaison between accounting and other departments to ensure procedural enhancements and to achieve corporate goals.
  • Assists with building financial systems that inform and motivate key players in the business.
  • Other responsibilities with similar skill, work conditions, and responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises two employees in the Accounting Department and indirectly oversees a team of ten. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience 
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university.
  • Five to ten years related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting; CMA or CPA preferred.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (experience with Sage X3 is a plus), Microsoft Office, expense management software.
