Blackboard Ally (Ally) is the #1 accessibility solution for education, focused on making digital course content more inclusive for all learners. Ally automatically checks digital course content for accessibility issues and serves detailed insights about accessibility data into an Institutional Report for administrators. Based on Ally’s analysis of digital content it also generates alternative formats of instructor content using advanced Machine Learning algorithms. Alternative file formats are engineered to work better with assistive technologies, mobile devices, and study tools, and include formats such as HTML, ePUB, audio MP3, electronic braille, and Language Translation. Ally then provides feedback to guide instructors on how to improve the accessibility of their course content and institution-wide reporting on course content accessibility to drive further improvements at the institution.  


The Product Manager role is responsible for the overall success of Blackboard Ally.  Research, definition, prioritization, and communication are core to the ongoing success of this role. The Product Manager is the go-to person for any questions or communication related to the product and must work closely and effectively with the numerous and varied teams and individuals contributing to the product, including product design, engineering, quality assurance, marketing, sales, and support. The successful candidate must have a passion for accessibility and inclusive education, and directly support the successful adoption and usage of the Ally by clients.



Primary responsibilities include:

  • Deeply researching and understanding the problems of instructors and students, and being able to accurately and thoroughly articulate requirements which strive to solve the problems identified
  • Prioritizing requirements based on quantitative & qualitative evidence to meet the needs of institutions
  • Communicating product strategy, upcoming releases, and product roadmaps to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Coordinating closely with other divisions of Blackboard to ensure cohesive solutions and capabilities
  • Working closely with the senior product leadership team to inform the strategic direction and Blackboard Ally product roadmap
  • Obtaining feedback from users, customers, sales, engineering, and other constituencies
  • Maintaining awareness of trends in education and technology, as well as competitive positioning
  • This role requires approximately 20% travel



The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 2+ years of software product management experience on a SaaS product
  • Experience with working with teams in an Agile or SAFe framework
  • Analytics software experience (Mixpanel, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, including building collaboration and consensus among diverse teams of peers, experts, and senior management
  • Ability to work in an ever-changing, fast paced, demanding environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work through conflict to meet objectives and maintain strong relationships across teams with different work styles and personalities
  • Ability to effectively deal with a certain degree of ambiguity/autonomy and capable of making sound business decisions
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Mastery of the English language



Preferred skills/qualifications:

  • Prior engineering or marketing experience
  • Familiarity with or a certain level of expertise with accessibility, including content and platform accessibility
  • A degree in computer science or mathematics
  • Previous experience in education technology and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
