The Role

 

The Assistant General Manager of MetroBus Operations mission is to ensure the safe, reliable and effective operation of MetroBus service across a 550-square mile service area in Missouri and Illinois. This is accomplished by managing the daily operation and engagement of MetroBus service, including operators, front-line supervisors and service area managers.

Responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Provide direction to Managers responsible for all daily, emergency and special event service. Accountable for safe and effective bus service to over 36 million passengers annually.
  • Coordinates with Planning Department and coordinates implementation of service and management staff to ensure effective bus service during regular operations and for frequent special services, emergencies or events.
  • Responsible for ensuring all aspects of MetroBus service is customer-focused and consistently excellent.
  • Accountable for driving strategic organizational changes and improvements through hiring, training and developing Transit Service Managers, Radio Dispatchers, and Service Area Managers.
  • Directs the on-street support systems in the Bus Operations Control department.
  • Directs the transit needs including station shuttles for MetroLink, service interruptions, disaster drills, medical emergencies, inclement weather and emergency situations with the community.
  • Plans, implements, and manages special event service.
  • Direct the use of resources including budget monitoring and development, develop and monitor staff schedules, and monitor management staff attendance.
  • Accountable for the operation of the MetroBus Control Center which is responsible for the 24/7 safe, effective operation and coordination of Managers and Bus Operators and all other support functions.

 

Leadership

  • Directs the operation of the MetroBus Control Center which is responsible for the 24/7 safe, effective operation and coordination of Service Area Managers, Transit Service Managers, Bus Operators and all other support functions.
  • Provides leadership and direction to managers responsible for all daily, emergency and special event activities involving MetroBus Operations.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to the Service Area Managers and the service areas to encourage engagement opportunities to the customers and community

 

Collaboration

  • Manages the interface of internal and external resources to achieve collaborative goals and fulfill the expectations of department directors and managers.
  • Collaborates with partners to develop and implement solutions to make service safer, more attractive and customer-focused.
  • Coordinate operational needs with Vehicle Maintenance, Right of Way maintenance and all other support functions.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources and the Training Department to support the development and provision of MetroBus Operations Training.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Extensive management and leadership experience on a senior management level.  Experience in managing in a union or similar environment.
  • Professional understanding of bus transit operations, safety, administration, employee training and development. Understanding of communications, planning and employee relations.
  • Professional interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive, difficult, and at times unpredictable customers or situations.
  • Ability to anticipate and plan for all service requirements through constant communication with supporting departments.
  • Ability to make decisions and implement them under emergency situations.
  • Ability to set goals, establish priorities and motivate management staff to perform in excellence.
  • Capacity to perform duties in a field environment, which can include outdoor working conditions and varying schedule.

Education

Experience

Degree: B.A./B.S. required

Years: 10 years in transportation or related field; 10 years in leadership position

Field: Business, Operations, Logistics or related field

Field: Bus, transportation senior management experience required
