The Role |
Communication technician responsible for performing maintenance, inspections, installation, and testing of all aspects of the light rail communication systems, and BSDA’s bus and train maintenance shops communications systems.
Salary Range: $73,880.00 - $ 86,190.00

Responsibilities |
- Maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, installs, updates, and tests Metro Light Rail Communication System, including: SCADA, RTUs, PATs, CTS, CCTV, Public Address, Emergency, Telephones, Computer Networking, Cat6 copper networking, Fiber-optic networking,
- Maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, installs, updates, and tests BSDA’s bus and train maintenance shops Communication Systems, including: CCTV, Public Address, clocks, Cat6 copper networking, Fiber-optic networking,
- Routinely inspects the quality of installed and in-service communication systems and associated documentation, ensuring system meets all applicable manufacturer, industry, government, and agency standards.
- Support Metro's Safety program.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities |
- Knowledge of communication system and maintenance practices needed to inspect, test, install, and maintain Metro's Communication systems.
- Knowledge of PC based computer hardware, Microsoft computer operating systems at the administrative level including Windows NT, 2000, XP, 7, 10. Server 2000, 2003, 2008 and newer, and computer networking TCP/IP at the administrative level.
- Knowledge of standard PC based software programs and tools such as Visual Studio, Oracle, MS Access, and hardware diagnostic applications, and other applications as needed
- Knowledge of maintaining highly available mission critical (24x7) redundant systems.
- Knowledge of railroad / rail transit communication system operation.
- Knowledge of Metro, local, state, and federal communication regulations.
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code. Skilled at the use of industry standard tools and test equipment used in the maintenance and installation of communication systems: (Various hand-tools, Multimeter, Oscilloscope, OTDR, dB meter, Fiber Optic test equipment, etc.)
- Skilled at identifying and rectifying communication system (defects) and related problems.
- Ability to evaluate and implement strategies to efficiently and effectively troubleshoot and repair communication system failures.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use PC based programs Word, Excel, and E-mail.
- Ability to work in any weather conditions, at any time of the day or night.
- Ability to report for emergency duty 24/7
- Ability to walk at least twenty miles per week over ballast track and uneven surfaces.
