Marketing & Communications Manager

 

Mission

The primary focus of this position will be to manage the brands for BSD’s Tourism Innovation division (Gateway Arch and Riverboats at the Gateway Arch) as well as provide marketing and communications guidance and support to National Park Service (NPS) and Gateway Arch National Park (GANP) Alliance partners. This detail-oriented position will manage marketing and communications projects/activities including public/media relations efforts, digital and print collateral, advertising, promotions, signage, interactive, partnerships, and media planning/buying oversight. Lead and manage internal staff and serve as day-to-day contact with contracted agencies of record. 

Essential Outcomes

  • Develop and implement marketing and communications policies, plans, and procedures for BSD’s Tourism Innovation division. Consult with Executive and Senior Management to maintain open communication and smooth coordination of marketing and communications activities with other functional areas including operating divisions.
  • Serve as marketing and communications liaison with external and internal marketing contacts to create and maintain current and future opportunities and partnerships leading to increased revenue.
  • Provide outstanding service to new and existing partners including helping to develop ideas for expanding existing media, promotional opportunities, and new audiences targeted. Execute elements of the marketing and communications plan including execution of partner and/or sponsorship agreements. Analyze media placement and recommend strategies to create growth tactics for targeted markets.
  • Assist in preparation of as well as maintain/track/update annual marketing and communication budgets. Work with the marketing and communications team to plan, budget, deploy, deliver, and evaluate all budgeted and unbudgeted plans and activities. Review and reconcile monthly vendor invoices.
  • Provide leadership, management, and establish agreed upon performance objectives for full-time and part-time staff.
  • Provide feedback to full-time and part-time staff on a regular basis and conduct annual performance appraisals.
  • Work with the sales team to support internal and external sales efforts and activities.
  • In collaboration with GANP Alliance partners, develop and execute marketing and communications plans for on-going programming, promotional opportunities, and/or special events at Gateway Arch National Park.
  • As requested by NPS, serve as GANP Alliance partner coordinator for internal communications for employee updates, on-going programming announcements/details, and special events. For GANP Alliance partners, maintain open job listings on gatewayarchjobs.com.
  • Coordinate in-house and third party agency design and production resources for execution and delivery of creative assets. Work closely with the creative team on art and other creative requirements and projects.
  • Continually improve and develop new media knowledge and acquire better analytical skills.
  • Actively participate in strategy meetings and external networking events. Attend tradeshows and other industry events to assist with establishing new partnerships and maintaining existing relationships with NPS, GANP Alliance partners, Explore St. Louis, St. Louis Sports Commission, and/or Missouri Division of Tourism.

Knowledge of communications: knowledge of principles and methods used for programs, strategies, and tactics related to public relations, media relations, and social media. Customer Service: knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, alternative delivery systems, and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques. Time management skills: effectively managing own and others’ time. Outcome-orientation: accountable for results of efforts and activities, concern for goal achievement. Initiative: ability to work independently to develop and implement new business strategies, policies and procedures. Technology: knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Suite tools. Knowledge of WordPress. Knowledge of automated marketing tools. Knowledge of Abode Creative Suite. Ability to learn CRM, ticketing, and reservations system.

Education

Experience

Degree:

B.A./B.S. required. Master’s degree preferred.

Years:

Five (5) to ten (10) years required.
