Marketing & Communications Specialist



The primary focus of this position will be to provide support for the marketing department and manage digital communications accounts/platforms for BSD’s hospitality and tourism companies. This customer-focused and detail-oriented position will manage the digital communication, print and online needs, including and social media platforms for the Gateway Arch & Riverboats at the Gateway Arch. The position will also have a heavy focus on capturing, editing, and managing photo and video assets for sales, marketing, and communications purposes. 

Essential Outcomes

  • Develop and implement marketing, social media, and online communications plans, procedures, campaigns, promotions, procedures, and standards for BSD’s hospitality and tourism companies.
  • Build a library of assets by capturing and editing creative, on-brand photography and video.
  • Respond to media & other requests for photography and videography assets, including follow up and tracking, and coordinate any public relations needs (interviews, etc.) with PR Agency.
  • Support Marketing & Communications Manager with creation of e-newsletters and forthcoming CRM software communication opportunities.
  • Manage, track, and analyze multiple marketing budgets.
  • Consult with Executive and Senior Management team to maintain open communication and smooth coordination of marketing, social media, and online communications activities with other functional areas.
  • Provide support for the development and production of digital and print materials.
  • Provide support for webstore content, configuration, and functionality, and act as liaison with ticketing software provider.
  • Attend tradeshows/special events and assist with establishing new partnerships and maintaining existing relationships.
  • Compile and analyze marketing and online communications data to refine marketing activities including tracking and reporting on objective return on investment (ROI) criteria.
  • Utilize customer information and available data to develop marketing and communications approaches as well as recommend new products/offerings.
  • Monitor trends and advise Executive and Senior Management by providing responsive recommendations and insights for long-range as well as short-term planning including pricing strategies.
  • Develop objectives, policies and programs for the marketing and communications activities of BSD’s hospitality and tourism companies including online advertising, new product introduction, trade show participation, etc. to promote the BSD’s hospitality and tourism companies and attract potential customers and advocates.
  • Identify partnership opportunities within the BSD’s hospitality/tourism markets as well as civic groups and governmental agencies such as National Park Service, St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, St. Louis Sports Commission, and Missouri Division of Tourism.

Judgment and Decision-making: Ability to gather and weigh significant information to come up with an effective decision. Knowledge of marketing: Knowledge of principles and methods involved in showing, promoting, and selling BSD’s Tourism Innovation services. This includes marketing strategies and tactics. Customer Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, alternative delivery systems, and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques. Time management skills: Effectively managing own and others’ time. Outcome-orientation: Accountable for results of efforts and activities, concern for goal achievement. Initiative: Ability to work independently to develop and implement new business strategies, policies and procedures. Technology: Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite tools. Knowledge of current website CMS and ability to learn a new CMS quickly. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, LightRoom, and Premiere. Knowledge of HTML coding. Ability to learn current ticketing system (i.e. Galaxy).




B.A./B.S. required.


Three (3) to five (5) years required.


Marketing, Advertising, or related field.


Developing and implementing a proven marketing plan; Working in the hospitality/tourism industry preferred.
