Intern, Research (Translational Biology)

The mission of Translational Biology is to conduct preclinical translational research evaluating potential therapeutics for severe rare diseases with unmet medical needs. We help provide proof-of-concept preclinical data in relevant disease models and data for understanding of mechanisms of action for these potential therapeutics.
Intern Project Description:
Research summer intern will work on 1 major project and 1 minor project over the 3-month internship. The successful candidate will partner closely with a team of scientists from translation biology, and other functional groups within BioMarin. He/She will primarily be responsible for executing ex vivo studies to assess biodistribution, efficacy and mechanism of action of potential therapeutics.
The responsibilities of the candidate are to:
- Perform immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization assays
- Perform basic histologic techniques, including but not limited to: fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining
- Perform Epiflourescence and Confocal Microscopy
- Notebook keeping, compilation of data and interpretation into power point presentations
- The intern will be working on one of two diverse projects (to be determined)
Applicants should be at least in their 3rd or 4th year obtaining a BA/BS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Genetics. MS are also encouraged to apply. Strong performance in relevant academic courses in is required. Candidates with previous laboratory experience in immunohistochemistry, microscopy and/or image analysis will be preferred. The position requires self-motivation, teamwork, and dedication to quality in a fast-paced scientific setting.
