Job Summary:

The overall objective of this role is to enable new employees to have the best possible chance for success when joining BioMarin by creating a consistent and robust onboarding experience.

Applicants should be highly tech savvy, detailed-oriented, have the ability to think beyond the immediate; be a problem solver, customer-focused, pleasantly persistent, and a collaborative team player. Candidate should be well-established in the Commercial space, have the ability to understand general Commercial business strategy and leverage insights to enhance the onboarding experience. This position will support San Rafael-based Commercial new hires in collaboration with Leadership to design and execute curricula in the company’s Learning Management System (LMS). In addition, the position will work closely with all team members to coordinate and ensure the on-boarding process is effective and efficient. Applicants will need to be comfortable with all levels of management including involving them in the process and communicating status to them on a consistent basis.

Responsibilities: Lead the on-boarding of San Rafael based Commercial employees.  This will be an evolving role that will evolve to work with Global Learning & Development partners towards a consistent global onboarding experience.

  • Work extensively with Leadership, IT and HR functions in a close and collaborative partnership to set up operational aspects of onboarding (phone, computer, benefits, etc.)
  • Build and maintain role-specific eLearning plans within Commercial LMS by uploading and organizing a myriad of training resources with varying formats
  • Analyze, build, and customize role-specific eLearning plans for LMS
  • Build out tools/resources for hiring managers
  • Provide guidance to hiring manager on their involvement in the process of the onboarding of their new hire
  • Partner with leaders and hiring managers to:
    • Develop strong working relationships
    • Conduct in-depth needs analysis with senior leaders in SRCC and Global functions
    • Determine necessary established learning assets that should be included in onboarding curriculum
    • Communicate hiring manager role in onboarding
    • Proactively provide onboarding guidance as needed
    • Encourage Best Practice Sharing across teams


  • Input, maintain, and assign content, update systems when necessary
  • Maintain Commercial LMS portal by collecting and communicating relevant information from CL&D team and other stakeholders through continuous process improvement and curriculum maintenance
  • Build and analyze varying reports within LMS to ensure eLearning execution and completion
  • Keep accurate and timely records of training attendance through the LMS system; provide reports to leadership when necessary
  • Capture and create processes in an easy to use format for others to understand
  • Provide up to date just-in-time technology solutions and resources for managers and new hires to enhance the learning experience
  • Survey new employees and manager experience to continually improve process
  • Utilize strong project management skills to connect and move forward key projects across diverse cross-functional partners
  • Manage assigned additional projects as needed
  • Provide mentorship to the Field Based Commercial Onboarding role
  • Problem solve as challenges arise

  • 3 or more years of experience preferred
  • Detail oriented
  • Experience with corporate meeting coordination and management necessary
  • Experience with Learning Management System administration
  • Knowledge in orphan diseases/biotech
