Our Culture
BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

Summary:
- Pharmaceutical Expertise:
Leverage your deep understanding of processes such as drug substance and drug product development/manufacturing, and packaging, to collaborate with process scientists and drive process optimization and innovation, improve efficiencies and resilience in supply chain.
- Process Data Analysis and Management:
Establish and lead the development of data pipelines for processing and managing large technical datasets from development to manufacturing and quality operations utilizing enterprise cloud and analytics capabilities. Ensure data is accessible and ready for analysis to inform high quality decision-making. Develop both prototype and production-grade software for advanced data visualization, as well as rigorous statistical and AI-based approaches for monitoring and controlling process and equipment performance.
- Root Cause Analysis & Deviation Summaries:
Supports analysis of process deviations using statistical techniques and data-driven insights to identify root causes and provide actionable recommendations for process improvements and corrective actions.
- Cloud & Digital Innovation:
Champion cloud technologies and digital solutions to optimize processes, enhance visibility, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Deploy and manage digital tools for real-time process monitoring and predictive analytics to improve product quality and operational resilience.
- Generative-AI technologies.
- Leadership & Team Development:
Lead and mentor a diverse team of data scientists and software engineers. Drive innovation by fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Demonstrate a proven ability to build and manage high-performing teams across geographies.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, IM, manufacturing, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs, to translate data insights into tangible business value. Ability to align and gain sponsorship from leadership and stakeholders. Ensure solutions are purposefully integrated into business processes to drive adoption and generate measurable impact.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree (preferred) in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering (Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field)
- 15+ years of experience in the biotechnology industry with demonstrated leadership in data science and engineering.
- Strong scientific understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes
- Demonstrated leadership in managing teams of data scientists, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Extensive experience in designing and managing cloud-based data pipelines, with hands-on expertise in platforms like Databricks and working across multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Strong Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL, and experience with data visualization tools like R-Shiny/Dash/Streamlit/D3.js
- Solid mathematical foundations in machine learning and AI, with a deep understanding of probability, statistics, optimization algorithms and architecture for developing predictive models and AI applications.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with experience driving cross-functional initiatives.
