US Sales Lead, Enzyme Therapies BU 

Location:  Field Based 

Summary Description
The US Sales Lead, Enzyme Therapies BU will be responsible leading US Enzyme Therapies BU sales teams nation-wide.  Directly reporting to the US Country Lead, Enzyme Therapies BU, this position will be responsible for achieving revenue targets, while managing operating expenses and maximizing values of Enzyme Therapies products by managing Sales Team and its key accounts. A key component is the management of Sales Directors and Account Managers: attracting, engaging, coaching and developing teams. 
This position requires a mix of strategic agility, business acumen, leadership, management of projects and an ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
  • People leadership and management expertise, analytical skills, and problem solving skills are required. Results orientated with a sense of urgency to get things done are necessary. 
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and gain the cooperation from others, excellent communication and presentation skills are required. A high degree of collaboration with other functional areas (marketing, medical, clinical coordinators, market access, commercial operations) is essential.
  • Must be a good match for the BioMarin culture, which is performance oriented while maintaining behavioral norms that support collaboration and innovation.
  • Direct experience building and accelerating sales organizations in competitive specialty markets is strongly desired.
  • A disciplined business-risk taker who is comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment, sensitive to the constraints of a small commercial organization, and committed to adhering to Compliance guidelines while upholding and modeling ethical and compliant behavior 
  • Must be able to operate effectively in this highly regulated environment, including an ability to understand, follow and manage to legal and regulatory compliance guidelines. Instills and demonstrates a high standard of performance and ethics within the organization and role models this behavior.
  • Must display empathy, compassion, and unique understanding of the Enzyme Therapies patient advocate community
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the US ET BU sales team to develop and execute effective strategies and tactics to improve diagnosis/treatment/adherence of Enzyme Therapies through efficient and effective sufficient KPI tracking.
  • Participate as a key member of the leadership team for US Enzyme Therapies BU team.
  • Develop US Enzyme Therapies national business plans based on revenue goals, marketing plans, and available resources to meet and exceed sales forecasts.
  • Attract, engage, develop, coach and manage the sales team and supervise the process at the account manager level.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Sales Directors.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings as appropriate in order to provide ‘the voice of the customer’ and articulate other insights gained in the field, which will help teams’ understanding on the customer needs.
  • Effectively monitor and manage cost center budgets and provide spending direction.
  • Work actively with other members of the Enzyme Therapies BU, and coordinate the effective use of resources such as MSLs, case managers and field clinical coordinators.
  • The position may require working weekends to attend scientific/conferences and patient educational events.
  • Be an expert in the clinical data and be able to provide strategic direction for its use with Sales Directors.
  • Ability to travel 60% of time based on business needs and to be in the field with the sales team and customers, observing and coaching.
 
Qualifications and Experiences
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Min. 12+ years of experience in the Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industries
  • 6 years biotech / specialty sales involving high value products
  • Min. 8 years field sales management
  • Experience in hiring, engaging and managing diverse teams in a competitive market space
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders (marketing, medical, operations, clinical support, patient services, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience of managing people managers
  • Promoting / managing promotion to academic institutions
  • Prior work experience with orphan-disease products and small or specialty markets
 
 Required Education 
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Advanced training in the Healthcare field and/or MBA preferred
