About Technical Operations

BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patient

SUMMARY: 
The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10 - 12 weeks our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects.
 
The Cold Chain Logistics and GDP team is responsible for overseeing end-to-end cold chain operations, including refrigerated storage, transportation, fulfilling logistics activities in a GDP regulated environment, including implementation of new shipping solutions, monitoring solutions and Bona Fides for customers/Distributors. The team is critical in ensuring the safe and efficient handling of temperature-sensitive goods throughout the supply chain. 
 
JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:
The Intern in Cold Chain Logistics and Good Distribution Practice will report to a manager in the same area and will be responsible for mapping out the shipping containers and controls uses through the organization to fulfill logistics activities in a GDP regulated environment. Some of these controls may include management of shipping solutions, monitoring solutions, and distribution management documentation.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  
  
  • Strategic Planning: In collaboration with distribution sites delivery new cold chain solutions that drive efficiencies and cost benefits.   
  • Supplier and Consumer Liaison: Execute and generate documentation related to Cold Chain Packaging solutions. Establish work instructions and lane assessments for new solutions.
  • Quality: Perform and/or track to completion and performance of cold chain logistics for qualification and/or day to day transportation activities.
  • Performance Metrics: Identify and support implementation of improvements to the Cold Chain Logistics and Good Distribution Practice systems.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and ISO requirements regarding qualification activities involving cross-functional, multi-departmental teams including Manufacturing, MSAT, Package Development, Process Sciences, Process Development, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and others.

 

 
Required Skills:
  • Proficient in standard MS Office applications. 
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and analytical skills 
  • Understanding of quality requirements  
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects and self-motivated. 
  • Supply Chain background 
  • Presentation preparation and delivery 
 
Desired Skills:
  • Proven track record in validation activities, both leading and supporting roles.
  • Experience in packaging, fill finish, cold chain, supply chain is ideal
  • Experience with 3PLs
 
Qualifications/Eligibility: 
  • Undergraduate student in their 3rd or 4th year of bachelor's degree program or in a Graduate program focusing on Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Management, or other related fields.
  • Must be available to work full time, 40 hours a week. 
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. based university or college and enrolled in the fall term after the completion of the internship OR have graduated within 1 year of the start of the program. 
  • Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship for on-site, hybrid roles. Some positions will be open to remote interns, but employee must be within United States borders.

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $21 to $25 per hour, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
