Description

The Sr Project Buyer is a member of the Development, Partnerships, and Innovation team and represents the Global Procurement function inside the Sourcing & Project Development team. The Sr Project Buyer manages and coordinates Procurement activities for all levels of product development projects, including strategic class A Projects. For particularly complex projects, the Sr Project Buyer may coordinate with multiple members of the Sourcing & Project Development team to address the full scope of Procurement activities within the Project.

Primary Duties

  1. Identify the needs, challenge and benchmark technical solutions proposed by R&D to improve margin and reduce risk, including components life cycle management.

  2. Leverage relationships with suppliers to bring innovative new solutions to the project in order to better meet the project needs.

  3. Define the Sourcing strategy together with the category manager. Find, select, negotiate, contract and manage relationships with international and domestic vendors to achieve Quality/Cost/Delivery goals of Program & long-term Procurement objectives.

  4. Identify Purchasing risks, propose and manage execution of mitigations, and capture strategic business opportunities.

  5. Monitor and improve project development cost, timelines, and Final Product cost (MSC) to fit with Project objectives.

  6. Collaborate with R&D, Quality, legal, Manufacturing, Sales and Finance departments when appropriate.

  7. Report directly to local, regional, global, and executive management on project priorities, including appropriate escalation channels when required.

  8. Partner with R&D to develop Design-to-Cost and Design-to-Value models for new components and/or high-level assemblies.

  9. Ensure that all consultations and/or negotiations are managed in accordance with the existing strategies/agreements and with Corporate Procurement and legal guidelines.

  10. Develop negotiation strategies, manage & negotiate contracts in collaboration with legal department.

  11. Build support for global procurement by consistently delivering professional support, specialty knowledge, technical competence, and innovative benefits.

  12. Manage procurement activities in alignment with existing supplier relationships & agreements in coordination with the Global Category Managers’ strategies and project/program agenda.

  13. Leverage introduction of new components to investigate potential new suppliers, jumpstart strategic shifts in commodity panels, or reinforce commodity strategies defined by OCM team.

  14. Escalate to the Category Manager any major contractual non-performances of the Suppliers.

  15. Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.

  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Training and Experience

  • Bachelor degree required
  • 5+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing/planning, or Relationship Management

Preferred Education, Training and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry or related technical field. 
  • Masters degree
  • Procurement, strategic sourcing/planning, or Relationship Management experience in technical, IVD, or regulated environments
  • Proven ability to lead complex negotiations and manage total cost of ownership, risks, IP and diversified contractual models.
  • Experience reading supplier markets, technologies and business models, and translating insights into strategic options.
  • Experience constructively challenging Marketing, R&D and other functions based on supplier realities, technical feasibility and market intelligence.
  • Experience working with strategic partners at senior levels in international and cross cultural environments.

Travel Requirements

  • Domestic travel required: 10%
  • International travel required: 5%
  • Total travel required: 15%

The estimated salary range for this role based in Utah is between $104,800 – $138,800. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
