The Tax Analyst will focus primarily on federal and state income tax compliance within the direct tax function. The Tax Analyst will support the preparation of federal and state tax workpapers, quarterly provision calculations, taxable income computations, annual filings, and audit documentation to help ensure accurate and timely tax compliance. 

The Tax Analyst will also contribute to process improvement and automation initiatives that streamline invoice processing, tax calculations, data management, and other tax-related workflows. By leveraging tools such as Alteryx and Power Query in Excel, the Tax Analyst will help improve efficiency across direct and indirect tax processes while gaining exposure to a broad range of tax and cross-functional operations. 

In addition, the Tax Analyst will support selected indirect tax activities, including customer communications, exemption certificate management, inquiry tracking, and related compliance tasks. The Tax Analyst will collaborate with finance, accounting, customer service, billing, and external service providers to complete these responsibilities. 

Primary Duties 

Direct Tax 

1. Federal and State Quarterly Provision Support 

  • Assist in preparing quarterly tax provision computations for senior review. 

  • Use ONESOURCE, Alteryx, and Power Query to support quarterly tax provision processes. 

  • Analyze and reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts to help ensure accuracy and completeness. 

2. Notice and Audit Resolution 

  • Prepare and organize audit documentation in accordance with applicable compliance checklists. 

  • Track and process tax notices and provide status updates to the Income Tax Management Team. 

  • Collaborate with the Income Tax Management Team on response letters, supporting documentation, and required payments. 

3. Federal and State Taxable Income Computations and Annual Filings 

  • Prepare workpapers supporting federal taxable income computations in collaboration with finance and accounting teams. 

  • Support annual federal and state income tax filings using third-party tax software. 

  • Assist with additional federal and state tax filings as required. 

4. Special Projects and Tax Research 

  • Conduct tax research regarding legislative and regulatory changes affecting federal and state tax compliance. 

  • Document relevant findings and communicate potential compliance or process impacts to the Income Tax Management Team. 

Cross-Functional 

1. Alteryx and Power Query Development 

  • Develop and optimize Alteryx workflows and Power Query processes to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and consistency of tax processes. 

  • Serve as an Alteryx Champion by supporting team training, knowledge sharing, and workflow improvements. 

2. Process Improvement and Automation 

  • Identify automation opportunities within direct and indirect tax processes. 

  • Assist with the development of tax data and reporting solutions using Snowflake, SQL, Python, and other applicable technologies. 

3. Project Participation and Compliance 

  • Participate in invoice processing and tax calculation projects involving billing systems to support accurate tax treatment and compliance. 

  • Collaborate with finance, accounting, billing, customer service, and other stakeholders on tax-related operational initiatives. 

Indirect Tax 

1. Customer Communications and Dunning Letters 

  • Prepare and send dunning letters for expiring exemption certificates. 

  • Track responses and follow-up activities related to expiring exemption certificates. 

2. Indirect Tax Email Support and Issue Resolution 

  • Track indirect tax inquiries and coordinate timely follow-up and resolution. 

  • Maintain applicable guidance and communicate tax requirements to customer service and billing teams. 

3. Exemption Certificate Management 

  • Process and verify exemption certificates for completeness and eligibility. 

  • Update the applicable exemption certificate database and periodically review certificate status and eligibility. 

Quality and Compliance 

  • Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures, internal controls, and applicable standards. 

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications 

Required Education, Training and Experience 

  • Bachelor degree required in Accounting or Finance (or other discipline if combined with Master's degree in Accounting or Finance) 

  • No previous experience required 

Preferred Education, Training and Experience 

  • Master's degree in Accounting or Finance 

  • Experience in accounting or tax 

  • ERP: SAP, NetSuite 

  • Software: Power Query, Power Automate, and Snowflake. 

  • Coding: SQL, Python, VBA

  • Proficient in research, communication, and documentation, especially in tax-related matters. 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to remain in stationary position, either sitting or standing, for prolonged periods. 

The estimated salary range for this role based in Utah is between $66,800 – $84,900. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
