Primary Purpose and Overall Objective of the Job:
To operate and maintain the major building systems that provide required services and critical utilities as needed to maintain life, safety, and production. To ensure that the facilities are maintained and conditioned as needed to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment and enable the company’s associates to be productive while performing their job functions.
Shift work required to provide 24 hour 7 day coverage for the Durham manufacturing facility. This is a position that requires attendance during adverse weather conditions.
Commercial / Industrial Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and parts, such as premises wiring and other electrical related equipment. This position requires extensive knowledge of electrical components as well as electrical safety codes and regulations.
The work of Commercial / Industrial Electricians can often be physically demanding. In order to install and repair equipment, they may need to crawl, climb, and stand for extended periods of time. They must also be able to operate tools in close proximity to electrical components.
They must be professional, technical, and mechanically proficient. Commercial / Industrial Electricians must also be able to understand and make decisions based on technical documents, such as blueprints, schematics, or instructions. They must also be motivated to work on their own and as part of a team. Strong communication skills are a necessary part of this position.
Main Accountabilities:
· Install, repair, and maintain electrical components of industrial equipment up to 480V. Candidates will further be able to install, repair, and maintain motor control centers (MCC).
· Observe safety procedures and meet electrical codes.
· Make decisions based on technical documents.
· Perform quality testing and inspections.
· Monitor/operate equipment in order to maintain and/or improve the proper, safe, and efficient functionality of facilities assets.
· Monitor and operate building maintenance system, environmental monitoring system and fire system. Respond to alarms and other urgent facility situations.
· Perform Preventative, Corrective, Predictive and Breakdown work orders on carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, chillers, steam and hot water boilers, fire system and other types of facility equipment as required.
· Troubleshoot advanced mechanical and electrical problems on various pieces of facility equipment. Use problem-solving tools to identify root cause for repetitive breakdowns or other losses.
· Requires the ability to use computers for document editing, computerized maintenance management system. Should have basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Outlook.
· Ensure that all assigned scheduled preventive maintenance tasks are completed.
· Must be able to work safely, use all personal protective equipment as required by OSHA and job requirements.
· Maintain excellent team working relationships and ownership of equipment and reliability while driving 100% customer satisfaction throughout all departments
· Participate in training as needed.
· Ability to train less experienced personnel.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Skills and Education:
· High school diploma and a minimum of five (5) years of progressive responsibility and electrical maintenance/troubleshooting in an industrial/commercial environment required
-And/Or-
· Associates or Trade Certification and a minimum of three (3) years’ of progressive responsibility and experience in electrical maintenance/troubleshooting in an industrial/commercial environment.
· NC State Electrical Contractors License preferred.
· Knowledge of electrical systems, hand tools, and industrial equipment.
· Awareness of national, state, and local electrical codes and regulations.
· Certification or experience in one or more of the following areas, preferred:
- OSHA 10
- NFPA 70E
- Level I Infrared Thermographer
- Journeyman accreditation program
· Valid Driver’s license, required.
· Must be able to push/pull 100 pounds, lift 50 pounds, work off ladders, and have the ability to crawl, lie down and work in tight places.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Requires the ability to read facility utility equipment manuals, schematics, blueprints, or other technical documents.
· Use of computerized building management system, i.e. Metasys, to maintain and troubleshoot facility equipment.
· Ability to troubleshoot and effectively resolve complex equipment malfunctions on carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, chillers, steam and hot water boilers, coolers and ultra-low freezers, fire system and other types of facility equipment.
· Advanced understanding of equipment/systems and in the diagnosis and repair of electrical and mechanical problems.
· Motivated self-starter who can manage projects and make decisions.
· Basic project management and planning/scheduling projects/repairs.
· Document clearly (verbal and written) and ability to work from verbal and written instructions, manuals, wiring diagrams, work orders and specification.
· Demonstrated experience of working independently is required.
