The Sr. Director, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) & Medical Advisor, serves as an architect, coach, and catalyst to drive success of the day to day execution of medical affairs plans and activities for both the MSL and Medical Advisor teams.  This leader works closely with key stakeholders across the organization to ensure exceptional medical support is provided externally across geographic regions in the US for the MSL team, and internally across the various products, systems and software tools for the medical advisor team. Key areas of focus include identifying, developing, and retaining top talent to lead MSL and Medical Advisor teams , and ensuring the teams are empowered to work seamlessly together to achieve organizational priorities. The Sr. Director will maintain technical expertise, engage in scientific exchange with sophisticated healthcare professionals, representatives from professional societies, and other stakeholders to ensure understanding of, and appropriate use of bioMérieux products and software solutions.  The position requires a high degree of flexibility, excellent problem solving skills, and the ability to create success as an individual contributor or part of a larger team, as needed.      

 

  

Primary Duties  

  • Demonstrate and drive the implementation of our bioMérieux cultural beliefs, creating empowered teams focused on continual improvement through collaboration and feedback, coaching to drive desired behaviors.   
  • Support medical planning to define and implement short and long term priorities and lead initiative implementation. 
  • Recruit, Develop, Lead, and Retain leadership for MSL and Medical Advisor Teams. 
  • Define and align the medical advisor teams to organizational priorities for evidence generation, tactical collaborations with professional societies, insights gathering, and medical education development.
  • Provide U.S. Medical Affairs leadership, in collaboration with internal stakeholders, to determine strategic direction and implementation of field based education initiatives, clearly articulated to MSL teams and stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership support to Global Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, and Market Access, representing US medical perspectives at key meetings throughout the year.
  • Engage with professional societies to represent bioMérieux and gather insights.  
  • Host and facilitate scientific engagements to build relationships with the clinical community.
  • Drive prioritized Scientific Congress engagement strategies to leverage the expertise of the teams for the benefit of communicating the medical value of  bioMérieux solutions.
  • Support customer-centric success for complex medical or scientific inquiries by enabling urgent resolution of issues through collaboration with the Customer Support Organization, Compliance, Regulatory, and Legal. 
  • Maintain professional licenses and certifications. Stay up to date on relevant scientific content via conference attendance and continuing education. 
  • Complete all required training, compliance, professional development, and performance evaluations in a timely manner. 
  • Efficiently manage budget, expense reporting, and fleet vehicle reporting requirements as applicable. 
 
Training and Education   
Advanced degree with expertise in Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology, ID Clinical Pharmacy, or comparable area. 
  
Experience  
  • Minimum 10 years experience in Clinical Diagnostics of Infectious Disease  
  • Minimum 10 years leadership experience with direct people management required
  • Advanced knowledge of Compliance, Legal, and Regulatory Guidelines for medical support of IVD diagnostics
  • Advanced knowledge of implementing standard operating procedures, policies, and guidance documents preferred
  • Industry experience required
  • Demonstrated exceptional public speaking experience preferred

  • Executive presence - Situational awareness to internal and external customers within accelerated and emerging business environments, advanced communication skills with familiarity and comfort presenting to executive leadership groups
  • Ability to lead by example in a matrixed environment; managing with integrity and building relationships of trust within the team and across the organization with key stakeholders to ensure alignment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets to plan
  • Functional Computer, Windows (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic IT knowledge (related to Data Management, Networking, HIPAA and Cyber Security)
