 C shift: (3/4 X 12) Sun -Tues, every other Wed - 6:00 pm - 6:30 am 

The Security Technician I serves as a member of the Facilities and Site Security team, reporting primarily to the Security Supervisor and secondarily to the Security Manager. This position is responsible for helping protect company assets, employees, visitors, and facilities from theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, fire, and other safety or security concerns.

The Security Technician I conducts routine patrols, monitors site activity, responds to emergencies, assists with incident reporting, and supports a safe and secure work environment across the Salt Lake City campus. This role requires strong observation skills, sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while maintaining compliance with company policies and quality standards.

Essential Responsibilities

Security Operations

  • Perform all work in compliance with company policies and the bioMérieux Quality System.
  • Conduct routine internal and external security patrols of buildings, parking lots, roadways, and site grounds.
  • Monitor facility access points and observe for signs of unauthorized activity, security concerns, or suspicious behavior.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, contractors, and company property.
  • Monitor surveillance systems and report unusual activities as appropriate.
  • Escort employees to vehicles upon request during all hours of operation.

Incident Response & Reporting

  • Observe and report potential criminal activity, suspicious behavior, safety concerns, and facility-related issues to the appropriate departments.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies involving employees, visitors, facilities, or property.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed shift reports documenting observations, incidents, patrol activities, and surveillance information.
  • Immediately notify supervision regarding emergencies or unusual situations requiring escalation.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement agencies and emergency responders when necessary.

Safety & Emergency Preparedness

  • Obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
  • Provide emergency assistance and first response support consistent with training and company procedures.
  • Support site emergency preparedness, business continuity, and safety initiatives.
  • Assist with weather-related safety efforts, including operation of snow removal equipment to clear roadways, parking lots, and walking paths.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Maintain patrol logs and electronic security documentation.
  • Assist Facilities, Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) teams with operational support as needed.
  • Perform routine inspections of facilities and grounds.
  • Complete and submit all required reports before the end of each shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain Utah Unarmed Security Guard Certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating schedules as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in corporate, industrial, or campus security environments.
  • Experience conducting patrols, monitoring security systems, or responding to emergency situations.
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience operating snow removal or grounds maintenance equipment.

  • Ability to operate site vehicles, snow removal equipment, and other security-related tools and equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Position may require working nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
  • Frequently works independently without direct supervision.
  • Position is unarmed.
  • May be assigned to multiple bioMérieux locations throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

  • Remain in a stationary position, standing or sitting, for extended periods.
  • Walk extensive distances while conducting patrols.
  • Ascend and descend stairs, ramps, ladders, and similar structures.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
  • Operate vehicles, snow removal equipment, and other machinery safely.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform outdoor patrols during various weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and cold.
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate large facilities and grounds.

The estimated wage range for this role based in Utah is between $17.00 – 25.50 This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
