Vice President, Mergers & Acquisitions
The VP of M&A is a critical leadership role and serves as the Chief Development Officer’s right hand. This individual will own the internal deal engine, including process development, pipeline management, analytics, and execution discipline. The role is central to scaling a high-performing M&A team and achieving aggressive acquisition targets.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Partner closely with the CDO on M&A strategy, team structure, and execution priorities
- Translate strategy into operational plans with clear metrics and accountability
- Provide insight into pipeline health, resource allocation, and deal performance
Deal Execution & Analytics
- Lead underwriting, financial modeling, and deal analysis from NDA through close
- Ensure accuracy of EBITDA and pro forma projections (target ±10%)
- Oversee quality control for all deal materials and investment committee presentations
Process & Team Management
- Own and improve the end-to-end M&A process
- Manage and develop Associates; enforce execution standards
- Coordinate cross-functionally with Partnerships, Operations, and Legal teams
Governance & Reporting
- Support deal approval processes and maintain accurate deal tracking
- Build reporting frameworks for pipeline health, deal velocity, and performance
- Deliver insights and updates to executive leadership and investors
Technology & Infrastructure
- Drive adoption of AI and automation within the M&A process
- Optimize CRM (HubSpot) and reporting systems for real-time visibility
- Implement scalable tools to support high-volume deal execution
What Success Looks Like
First 45 Days
- Assess and improve current M&A processes and pipeline data
- Establish cross-functional relationships
- Standardize deal materials and workflows
6–12 Months
- High-performing, scalable M&A engine with strong process discipline
- Consistent underwriting accuracy within target range
- Real-time visibility into pipeline performance and deal metrics
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years in M&A, corporate development, investment banking, or transaction advisory
- Proven experience managing full deal lifecycle
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills
- Experience leading or mentoring junior team members
- Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership
- CRM experience (HubSpot preferred)
Preferred
- Experience in private equity-backed or high-volume acquisition environments
- Background in automotive, retail, or multi-unit industries
- Familiarity with AI tools in deal workflows
- Experience with governance frameworks and process optimization
