About the Role     

At Bethany, a career as a Occupational Therapist is both personally and professionally challenging and rewarding. With a passion for care towards residents, families and team members, the Occupational Therapist is responsible and accountable for the provision of relevant resident assessments and interventions; , provision of adaptive equipment to promote independence, and occupational therapy programs to optimize resident physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional and social functions.  The Occupational Therapist works in close liaison with the Interdisciplinary Team and is accountable to provide leadership and supervision to the Occupational Therapy Assistant/Therapy Assistant (as applicable).

What You Will Do:      

  • Conducts assessments concerning activities of daily living in alignment with Bethany Care policies and procedures
  • Assists residents to identify goals and choices and provides intervention to enhance quality of life and optimize function.
  • Liaises with family, acute care and community resources (Ex: AADL - Alberta Aids to Daily Living, equipment vendors, seating clinic, etc.) to achieve goals. 
  • Documents in healthcare recording, including resident centered care plan, and ensuring record of resident participation is completed and monitored.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all resident and occupational health and safety policies and procedures. 
  • Provides orientation, supervision and direction to Occupational Therapy Assistants to ensure expected outcomes of service. 

What You Bring:      

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy or Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT) recognized equivalent.
  • Previous experience with geriatrics preferred.
  • knowledge and experience with dementia care preferred. 
  • Active registration with Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT) required
  • Membership in Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) preferred
  • Membership in Society of Alberta Occupational Therapists (SAOT)
  • Able to work effectively in a physically and mentally demanding environment
  • Demonstrates ability to understand, speak, read and write effectively in English.
  • Excellent Observational, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Able to perform lifting and transferring of residents
  • Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) authorizer status preferred - wheelchair level A.
