Key Accountabilities
Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Services, and Chief Financial Officer, The Director of Finance and Controller oversees all aspects of the organization's financial operations, ensuring the finance function supports Bethany's mission, vision, and values. The incumbent plays a pivotal role in promoting service excellence and providing leadership to Bethany's finance department, which includes accounting and financial operations, budgeting and reporting, supply chain services, and payroll.
The ideal candidate possesses exceptional technical skills, demonstrated leadership and management competencies, strong analytical skills, and an ability to work closely with other departments as a trusted partner.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Service Excellence:
- Promotes Bethany's service excellence program and provides leadership to Bethany’s Finance Department
- Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement
- Establish key performance goals for the finance team and work closely with other departments to align performance goals
Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Oversee and lead the development of annual budgets, including coordinating with department leaders to forecast revenues, expenses, and capital needs
- Oversee preparation of financial forecasts and models to guide strategic decision making
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas of opportunities and risk for management
Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and external restrictions
- Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports for internal stakeholders, the board, and external entities
- Lead management and discussion and analysis (MD&A) reporting
Financial and Supply Chain Operations:
- Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded
- Oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes to ensure timely payments and collections
- Oversee a supply chain strategy that aligns with organizational business objectives and oversee the integration and optimization of supply chain technologies to streamline operations and improve service delivery
- Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll and related compliance with tax and labour laws
- Implement and refine financial policies
Compliance:
- Establish and oversee the maintenance of strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
- Oversee the preparation and filing of relevant tax returns and ensure compliance with legislation and debt compliance requirements
- Oversee and coordinate all external audits to ensure successful audits
Treasury & Cash Management:
- Monitor and manage the company's cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operations and investments
- Manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions to optimize available banking systems with internal processes
- Recommend strategies to optimize working capital.
Systems Management:
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and software to ensure efficient and accurate financial operations (including payroll and supply chain)
- Ensure data accuracy and system efficiency.
- Identify and lead the streamlining of financial and supply chain processes
What You Bring
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; Professional Designation: CPA required
Experience:
- 10 or more years of experience in finance and accounting, with at least 5 years at or above a Director or Controller leve
Technical Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP and NPO Accounting Standards, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Experience with multifaceted and complex organizations with ERP systems (Workday, SAP, Oracle)
- Prior accounting experience with externally restricted funds
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and mitigation of errors
- Demonstration of critical thinking and strong analytical skills

- Proven ability to lead and develop teams, with excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to the provision of customer service to a broad range of stakeholder groups
- Dedicated to working collaboratively with peers and colleagues, contributing to Bethany's mission
