Job Description:

Benefitfocus is searching for a Senior Technical Accountant to join our team.  As a Senior Technical Accountant, you will be responsible for assessment of all technical accounting matters, including post-acquisition purchase accounting, integration and revenue recognition. You will interact closely with members of the finance, corporate development and legal teams, along with independent auditors to ensure accurate reporting and full compliance with all external standards. You will also have the opportunity to assist in special projects and process improvements. 

Responsibilities:

  • Apply a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure 
  • Review the impact of new or proposed accounting standards, interpretations or regulations from the FASB, AICPA and SEC. 
  • Research technical accounting matters and assist in the preparation of technical accounting whitepapers. 
  • Assist with external audits 
  • Assist with preparation of public company filings 
  • Perform impairment assessments annually, or as needed 
  • Assist with post-acquisition accounting, including purchase accounting and other integration related activities 
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting 
  • Licensed CPA is preferred 
  • Minimum 4-5 years of progressive professional experience with public accounting and/or software industry experience preferred 
  • Experience with technical accounting, research and reporting 
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP 
  • Strong Excel skills
