Position at Baylis Medical


The Technical Buyer is responsible for leading negotiations, supplier management and independently identifying cost saving opportunities and vendor risks.

Snapshot of Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with various suppliers and coordinate purchasing requirements with functional experts
  • Reviews contract terms related to pricing, payment and delivery.
  • Collect, organize and synthesize data to support others in their functional area. Analyze data and reports using statistical techniques.
  • Consider the impact of documentation changes on other stakeholders and existing documentation linkages.
  • Establish working relationships with vendors to strengthen business and support company strategies.
  • Independently identify cost saving opportunities and vendor risks. Makes recommendations to management on which opportunities to pursue.
  • Negotiates for major capital purchases and long-term contracts (i.e. Supply agreements with vendors to improve supply terms)
  • Participate in the supplier performance evaluation/scorecard process.
  • Collect, organize, and synthesize data to support others in their functional area.
  • Work closely with R&D or Process Engineering teams to help define supplier part requirements, including advising on the design specifications
  • Source and evaluate potential suppliers, assessing production capabilities, lead times, quality, knowledge base, and overall fit with Baylis
  • Work on procurement activities and projects with a specific focus on supporting NPI/PDP Projects and/or specific focus on supporting sustaining operations
  • Adhere to and promote the adherence to all Corporate, Quality and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as required.

What you bring to the team:

  • Background in Science or Engineering required (Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree), with a focus on biomedical experience
  • Applicant must be able to understand and translate the technical requirements from multiple R&D/Process Engineering teams into supplier sourcing activities
  • 2-3 years of purchasing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated competence as Buyer or equivalent
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experience working with ERP systems or databases is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management
  • Highly detail oriented
  • Experience with ERP systems (Epicor), CRM systems (Salesforce) and eQMS (ETQ Reliance) systems an asset.
