Envision yourself at Barracuda
The Senior Cloud Security Engineer (Customer Zero) serves as a hands-on technical leader, responsible for driving the internal adoption, operation, and maturation of the company’s next-generation SaaS-based security platforms and shaping how they are used at scale across AWS and Azure.

This role owns the Customer Zero program, positioning the company as its own first and most demanding customer, while partnering with Product and Engineering to influence roadmap decisions and improve product quality. The role requires deep hands-on expertise in cloud security alongside strong prioritization, technical judgment, and cross-functional influence.

What You’ll be Working on:

Cloud Security & Customer Zero Leadership

  • Drive the internal deployment, configuration, optimization, and lifecycle management of the company’s SaaS-based security platforms (including CNAPP, SASE, XDR, and Email Security) across AWS and Azure environments.
  • Own and drive the Customer Zero program, acting as the internal first customer by operating security products at scale in production-like conditions to validate efficacy, resilience, and usability.
  • Establish Customer Zero success criteria, usage patterns, and feedback loops that translate internal experience into actionable product improvements and go-to-market credibility.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud security architectures that reflect real customer use cases and best practices.

Product & Engineering Partnership

  • Act as a senior technical partner to Product Management and Engineering, providing structured, real-world feedback on feature gaps, usability issues, performance considerations, and roadmap priorities.
  • Collaborate on early access features, beta programs, and internal proofs-of-concept to accelerate product maturity and innovation.
  • Help translate internal security learnings into internal case studies, reference architectures, and external-facing proof points where appropriate.

Automation, Architecture, and Technical Excellence

  • Drive automation of cloud security operations through scripting, APIs, and infrastructure-as-code to improve scale, consistency, and signal quality.
  • Champion integration of security tooling with CI/CD pipelines, cloud-native services, identity platforms, and operational workflows.
  • Maintain a broad, expert-level understanding of cloud-native security domains including IAM, workload protection, network security, data protection, threat detection, and posture management.

Program Ownership & Technical Stewardship

  • Mentor and support Cloud Security Engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and knowledge sharing; contribute to onboarding materials and internal enablement.
  • Drive execution by defining technical priorities, operating rhythms, and delivery plans for Customer Zero and cloud security engineering initiatives, aligning stakeholders across Security, IT, and Engineering.
  • Establish and track meaningful metrics for cloud security posture, product adoption, control effectiveness, and Customer Zero impact.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex cloud security issues and architectural decisions, coordinating incident response and driving root-cause remediation where needed.

Cross-Functional & Executive Engagement

  • Partner with IT, DevSecOps, and Security Leadership to drive measurable improvements in cloud security outcomes.
  • Communicate security posture, product performance insights, and risk trends clearly to both technical and executive audiences.
  • Influence security strategy through data-driven insights derived from internal product usage and operational experience.

What you Bring to the Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 6+ years of experience in cloud and/or product-focused security engineering roles, with significant hands-on experience in AWS and/or Azure.
  • 2+ years of experience acting as a senior technical lead (e.g., leading projects, driving design reviews, and influencing engineering outcomes) in cloud security engineering.
  • Deep practical experience operating SaaS-based security platforms in production environments.
  • Proven ability to operate autonomously in a distributed, fast-paced environment while delivering high-impact outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a Customer Zero environment, ideally within a security or cloud-native product company.
  • Hands-on expertise with CNAPP, SASE, XDR, and/or Email Security platforms, or equivalent best-in-breed solutions.
  • Strong track record of influencing Product and Engineering teams to deliver measurable product and security improvements.
  • Experience building security automation, infrastructure-as-code, or internal reference implementations.
  • Ability to translate technical findings into executive-ready narratives, metrics, and success stories.
