OVERVIEW: 
The Chief of Staff to the Managing Partner will serve as the principal strategic advisor and operational leader for the office of the Managing Partner. Acting as the Managing Partner’s trusted right hand, the Chief of Staff will have full proxy to make decisions, approve exceptions, and execute directives and initiatives on behalf of the Managing Partner. This role requires exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-stakes environment.
 
The Chief of Staff will provide critical oversight and coordination across all firm functions, ensuring alignment with the Managing Partner’s vision and strategic objectives. This individual will work closely with senior leadership, practice groups, and support teams to maintain operational efficiency and advance firm-wide initiatives.
 
Key Responsibilities: 
Strategic Support & Execution 
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Managing Partner, providing counsel on strategic, operational, and organizational matters.
  • Execute all directives and initiatives issued by the Managing Partner, ensuring timely and effective implementation.
  • Make decisions and approve exceptions in line with the Managing Partner’s priorities and the firm’s strategic goals.
  • Represent the Managing Partner in meetings, negotiations, and other forums as delegated.
  • Manage the financial aspects of the operational plan to ensure effective resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with finance to analyze legal spending patterns and routinely identify opportunities for cost savings.
Operational Oversight 
  • Lead and coordinate firm-wide projects, ensuring cross-departmental collaboration and accountability.
  • Monitor and track the progress of key initiatives, reporting updates and outcomes to the Managing Partner.
  • Manage resource allocation and immigration service provider relationships to   resolve bottlenecks or obstacles and achieve operational excellence, including efficiencies and cost savings.
Leadership & Team Engagement 
  • Act as a liaison between the Managing Partner and practice group leaders, department heads, and administrative teams to ensure seamless communication.
  • Drive alignment and accountability across senior leadership, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Handle sensitive personnel matters and provide strategic guidance on organizational dynamics.
Decision-Making & Approvals 
  • Review and approve operational requests, budget exceptions, and other firm matters on behalf of the Managing Partner.
  • Ensure decisions align with the firm’s strategic goals, policies, and risk management frameworks.
Communication & Stakeholder Management 
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders seeking access to or decisions from the Managing Partner.
  • Draft communications, reports, and presentations on behalf of the Managing Partner.
  • Manage and prioritize the Managing Partner’s schedule, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
Qualifications: 
Experience: 10+ years of experience in a leadership, operational, or strategic role within a law firm, professional services organization, or similar high-performing environment.
 
Education: Bachelor’s degree required

  • Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of law firm economics.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • High degree of discretion and ability to handle sensitive matters confidentially.

Reporting Relationship: 
  • The Chief of Staff reports directly to the Managing Partner and works closely with the firm’s executive committee, practice group leaders, and senior operations leaders.
 
Location: Dallas Preferred
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone.
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Regular and on-time attendance.
  • Must be able to prioritized, schedule and complete testing required for multiple applications with overlapping schedules.
  • A certain degree of creativity and flexibility is required.
  • Hours may exceed 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
