POSITION TITLE: Senior Buyer, Men’s

REPORTS TO: Divisional Merchandise Manager, Softgoods

LOCATION: Park City

The Senior Merchant (Men’s) at Backcountry is responsible for setting the assortment strategy and achieving the financial goals of Men’s Merchandise Division (MD). ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assortment Selection:  Develop strategic direction for Men’s including key items, big ideas, growth areas, and category/brand mix with omni-channel in mind. Identifies and on boards new brands. Keeps assortment fresh and leading within the industry.
  • Business Management: Owns revenue, margin, inventory, receipt flow, and in-stocks levels for the Men’s MD. Develops and executes strategies to drive the business. Pro-actively identifies future challenges to the business and strategically outlines mitigations. Can communicate strategy clearly to C-Level executives.
  • Inventory Management:  Manages the Open to Buy (OTB), hind sighting SKU/Category performance, establishes Preseason PO Receipt Flow, Preseason inventory allocation, set in season sell-through targets, manages Return to Vendor (RTV) and mark-down dollar requests with vendor, and ensures inventory management strategy aligned with Companywide financial goals
  • Vendor Negotiations: Leads strategies with brands (forecasts, 3YPs, exclusives, SMUs). Negotiates terms, pricing policies, promotional periods, image use, etc. Represents Backcountry in high level meetings.
  • Marketing Inputs: Communicates key items and themes for season, brainstorms/hind-sights promo concepts and reacts to performance, identifies risks in promotional calendar and building back-ups Collaborates, influences other senior leaders in cross-functional environment
  • Team Management: Acts as a mentor for more junior members of the team, ensures utilization and development of team merchants. Adaptive, leads through complex and ambiguous problems and situations.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 7+ years of Merchandising experience
  • Outstanding time management skills: ability to meet deadlines and exercise judgement under pressure
  • Experience managing a team of merchants
  • Ability to assess and manage both technical and lifestyle brands and products
  • Excellent organizational skills and extreme attention to detail
  • Outstanding time management skills: ability to meet deadlines and exercise judgement under pressure
  • Clear ability to communicate business results to a Leadership/Exec team, must be solution-oriented
  • Excellent presentation skills and strong negotiation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (proficiency in Excel a must)
