We’re looking for a highly analytical Senior Manager of Email Marketing to lead our email program and team. The ideal candidate will be a confident self-starter with a deep understanding of email marketing who’s ready to lead a talented team and drive demand growth in this channel.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Oversee the strategy and execution of all lifecycle, transactional and batch and blast email campaigns across Backcountry.com, Competitivecyclist.com and Steepandcheap.com
  • Build a robust and innovative email strategy that focuses on personalized messaging, churn prevention and lifecycle campaigns to drive demand and list growth
  • Launch an all-new SMS program for Backcountry, testing into success in partnership with internal and external support
  • Oversee all vendors responsible for email execution, including our email service provider, Cordial
  • Perform regular A/B testing to drive ongoing campaign optimization across all email functions
  • Act as a strong cross functional partner with key stakeholders to drive channel success, including our internal creative team, integrated marketing, merchandising and engineering
  • Understand the various Backcountry customer cohorts and apply that understanding to drive personalized approaches that convert customers
  • Possess a deep understanding of email creative best practices to provide solid, data-driven feedback to creative peers
  • Conduct thorough weekly and monthly analysis of the channel and provide reporting up to the executive level on performance
  • Act as a strong, confident, and visionary team lead, with the capability to translate strategy into action for direct reports
  • Manage the email channel budget end to end, including monthly share outs to finance and the Senior Director of Retention Marketing

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum six+ years in digital marketing, at least four of those directly managing email marketing campaigns. Prefer candidates with experience at an outdoor brand or larger online retailer
  • Hands-on management of existing email marketing vendors and vetting new vendors. Experience with an email personalization vendor preferred
  • Team leadership, with multiple years managing and growing direct reports
  • Excels in cross-functional partnership with key stakeholders in creative, analytics, engineering, and merchandising
  • Strong presentation skills, ability to translate complex topics in a simple straightforward manner
  • Highly analytical, with a strong ability to read results and understand the drivers of those results
  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in business, marketing, or related field preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with an obsession for timeliness, detail, and quality
  • Exceptional work ethic, resiliency, and proven ability to overcome obstacles to deliver results, especially in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Passion for the outdoors a plus
