POSITION TITLE: Director, FP&A 

REPORTS TO: Sr. Director, FP&A  

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis reports to the Sr Director of FP&A and is responsible for building and supporting all financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting and analysis for each of our websites, functions and cost centers.  This person identifies cost savings, along with providing financial and analytical support for the company’s initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Originate and develop analyses to help executives and board members better understand financial trends and financial opportunities (e.g., cost savings, business development, etc.)
  • Leverage ongoing analysis to ensure that the company meets its financial goals and make certain executive leadership is fully aware of financial results and trends
  • Manage the Company’s annual budget building process, including developing key assumptions, working with operating business partners to develop budgets to achieve desired financial results
  • Manage the Company’s ongoing forecast process outlining potential risks, and opportunities proactively making recommendations
  • Provide financial, analytical and decision support for all of Backcountry's websites
  • Review and analyze financial and business operating reports conducting variance analysis and making recommendations to improve results
  • Build and update financial models/budgets and perform ad hoc data inquiries as needed
  • Automate, refine and enhance financial reporting and KPIs to ensure clear, consistent and impactful reporting
  • Work with business intelligence tools to extract relevant data; work with BI team members to gather data
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of financial concepts and principles of business metrics and analyses, including their application to effective reporting and analysis
  • Able to draw concise and crisp conclusion from complex and detailed data, and present results to management
  • Stay current on retail industry trends and developments; stay current with the latest analytics trends and developments. Discuss trends with FP&A team members and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Coach and develop direct reports
  • Acts as “storytelling lead” for the FP&A team, guiding others to develop meaningful representations of financial information 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience is required.  
  • 10+ years of progressive financial analysis experience. Background in retail or consumer goods preferred
  • Demonstrated success driving decision-making through influence through cross-functional collaboration across various levels and functions
  • Able to execute on today's challenges while maintaining a forward-thinking mindset around where we'll be six months, a year, and several years from now
  • Data driven and goal oriented, you measure success both quantitatively and qualitatively, and understand the importance of both
  • Extraordinary Excel / PowerPoint / financial modeling skills
  • Proven ability to develop and manage a team
  • Team player with a "no task is too small" attitude
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Must be an analytical, strategic thinker with the ability to effectively collaborate with various business units
  • Track record of building and leading effective teams
  • Able to manage multiple high pressure competing deadlines, while delivering high quality work
