Job Summary
The State Wholesale Director is a dynamic and strategic leadership role responsible for driving wholesale sales growth, building strong customer relationships, and leading a high-performing sales team within the cannabis industry. This position focuses on developing and executing sales strategies, managing key accounts, and providing detailed business tracking and reporting to achieve financial objectives.
As the State Wholesale Director, you will collaborate closely with state-level marketing teams and cross-functional partners (including operations) to ensure alignment between sales initiatives and overall business goals. You will be instrumental in identifying new business opportunities, enhancing customer engagement, and optimizing sales processes to drive year-over-year growth and market expansion.
Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, motivate, and mentor the state wholesale sale team to consistently meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to strengthen team performance and drive revenue growth.
- Foster a collaborative culture that supports innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Account Management & Relationship Building
- Develop and implement strategies to acquire new accounts, expand existing business, and nurture key customer relationships.
- Maintain regular communication with key accounts through scheduled calls, visits, and presentations to ensure satisfaction and identify growth opportunities.
- Build lasting relationships with distributors, retailers, and other B2B partners to drive loyalty and repeat business.
Market Analysis & Strategic Planning
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences to provide timely market analysis and strategic insights.
- Regularly report on state-level wholesale performance, including sales metrics, growth opportunities, and potential risks.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and execute long-term sales plans and promotional initiatives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Promotional Planning
- Partner with state marketing teams and sales teams to create effective promotional plans, product launches, advertising programs, and educational initiatives.
- Coordinate with operations to ensure smooth fulfillment, distribution, and inventory management.
- Contribute to the development of sales materials, marketing collateral, and training programs.
Business Development & Contracts
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including emerging markets and high-potential accounts.
- Assist with negotiating and managing sales contracts to ensure favorable terms and conditions.
- Represent the company positively at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of experience leading B2B wholesale sales team in the cannabis industry.
- Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth, closing high-value deals, building and managing key accounts, and negotiating contracts.
- Experience leading and motivating sales teams, providing coaching and development to achieve and exceed sales targets.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Strong ability to recognize trends, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing market conditions.
- High ethical standards, honesty, and integrity aligned with the company's vision and mission.
- Travel Requirements: Must have own vehicle, valid driver’s license, and insurance. Travel across market will be required weekly that may include overnight.
