Job Summary

 

The Director of Asset Protection (AP) leads AYR’s national strategy to reduce shrink, prevent diversion, protect people and product, and safeguard cash and company assets across all markets. This role sets standards, builds programs, and partners closely with Retail, Cultivation, Manufacturing, Distribution, Compliance, Finance, Legal, and IT/Security to drive measurable results while aligning with state cannabis regulations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy, Analytics & Governance

  • Strengthen the national AP strategy and operating cadence. Evaluate and update AYR’s national AP strategy, standards, and playbooks; tailor for state requirements and site types (retail, cultivation, manufacturing,
  • Maintain and improve dashboards & exception reporting (Power BI); ensure a consistent, closed-loop case management program. Run analytics/exception reporting, case management, and AP scorecards, brief executive leadership on trends.
  • Manage vendors/SLAs and the AP budget; prioritize highROI initiatives and technology.
  • Own national policy/SOPs and governance aligned to state cannabis rules.
  • Set security technology standards; manage vendors and budget (CCTV/VMS, alarms, armored carriers).

Leadership & Team Management

  • Hire, train, lead, and develop a high-performing AP team (managers + associates) across regions; clarify roles, goals, and operating rhythms.
  • Set clear KPI targets and accountability
  • Partner with People Ops on performance management
  • Optimize coverage model (store/cultivation/manufacturing visits, on-call rotations) and prioritize high-risk locations/events.
  • Partner with L&D team in the design and delivery of AP training; advise on security design for new sites and expansions. Training and enablement. Reinforce a controlsfirst culture through simple tools, refreshers, and followthrough.

Investigations, Incident Response & Business Continuity

  • Lead or oversee external investigations in partnership with Legal/Compliance and law enforcement; coordinate external agencies/vendors and ensure evidence-handling protocols.
  • Lead internal investigations in partnership with People Ops and Legal/Compliance; manage case management systems and maintain chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Build relationships with law enforcement and industry groups to deter and resolve ORC activity.
  • Own AP incident protocols (robbery, burglary, diversion suspicion, product theft, vandalism); drive post-incident corrective actions.
  • Partner on crisis response and after-action reviews.

Loss Prevention, Inventory & Compliance

  • Own the shrink reduction roadmap across retail and supply chain; analyze POS/seedtosale signals for root causes.
  • Enforce inventory accuracy controls and variance thresholds; ensure compliance with state tracking (METRC/BioTrack).

Security, Cash & Incident Response

  • Set and inspect physical security standards (CCTV/VMS, alarms, access control, vaults, opening/closing).
  • Define cash handling SOPs (dual control, armored carrier, audits, over/short monitoring).
  • Own incident protocols (robbery, burglary, diversion suspicion, theft, vandalism), afteraction reviews, and corrective actions.

 

Qualifications

 

  • 10+ years AP/LP experience with multiunit, multistate scope; 3–5+ years leading teams/programs.
  • Experience in regulated, cashintensive, or highshrink environments; cannabis strongly preferred.
  • Depth in inventory/cash controls, investigations/ORC, security tech (CCTV/VMS, alarms, access control).
  • Seedtosale familiarity (METRC/BioTrack) and state regulatory requirements; strong data/analytics chops (Power BI a plus).
  • Proven vendor/budget ownership; ability to influence crossfunctionally and drive measurable results.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain state cannabis badges and pass background checks; valid driver’s license.
