Job Summary

The Cultivation Technician oversees all plants in any/all subdivisions of the department.  Through responsible care of plants from propagation through harvest, the Cultivation Technician is essential to ensuring the purpose of Ayr Cultivation is achieved—a scientific, data-driven, and no-nonsense approach to cannabis production.  Ayr Wellness is dedicated to becoming the foremost provider of sustainably grown premium cannabis products to our communities.  Grown with Love.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains a high level of cleanliness of all surfaces in the flower rooms, as well as sanitation practices concerning handling of plants according to Company procedure.
  • Assists in fostering a positive work environment, treats everyone with dignity and respect, while perpetuating a curiosity for “everything cannabis”.


  • Assists in all aspects of flower room operations including room sets, trellising, pruning, spacing, canopy management, and post-harvest room cleans.
  • Completes proper defoliation techniques on designated days in the flower cycle.
  • Performs plant destruction and plant waste destruction in compliance with Sira Naturals, local and state policies.


  • Assists in all aspects of veg and mom room operations, including topping, transplanting, pruning, and cutting.
  • Completes proper transplanting techniques in a timely manner.
  • Performs daily clone check.
  • Accurately labels and tags plants.


  • Accurately performs fertilizer mixing, ensuring that all stock buckets remain full and nutrient solutions are at the proper EC and PH.
  • Adjusts Dosatrons for proper feed ratios as needed.
  • Monitors irrigation and control system for any abnormalities.
  • Performs and documents regular foliar sprays on all rooms.
  • Releases beneficial insects as needed.
  • Carefully monitors plants for signs of deficiencies or pest pressure.
  • Performs regular Metrc audits and corrects any discrepancies to always ensure full plant inventory compliance.



  • Must meet minimum age requirements as outlined by state cannabis agency
  • Able to pass all background checks/fingerprinting as required by state cannabis agency


  • High school diploma/GED required


  • 1-3 years in marijuana growing, cultivating, and trimming preferred
  • Familiarity with warehouse procedures is a plus
  • Experience working in a regulated environment with a regulated and tracked substance.
  • Experience working in a trade or in a manufacturing facility

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong desire to produce a high-quality product.
  • Able to demonstrate sound judgement and problem solving.
  • Familiarity with Good Agricultural Practices/Good Handling Practices (GAP/GHP)
  • Familiarity with WHO Guidelines for Medicinal Crops
  • Experience working with power tools and materials such as PEX, PVC, EMT, etc.

Working Conditions

This person will have extended cannabis exposure and may be exposed to dust, kief, cleaning chemicals, and fumes. Although systems are in place to remove these byproducts, there is still exposure to some degree. This person will also be exposed to strong UVA/UVB lights in growing areas; UVA/UVB safety glasses will be provided to protect against these.

Physical Requirements

  • Both remaining in a stationary position and walking motion/movement about the department/facility will be required throughout the shift.
  • Constant movement of hands/fingers and limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Constantly positions self throughout task at hand.
  • Frequently ascends/descends a ladder to inspect/maintain plants.
  • Occasionally operates power hand tools and other cultivation machinery.
  • Must be able to inspect and detect quality deviations and defects.
  • Occasional lifting, positioning, or moving items up to 100 pounds
