Job Summary 

The Chief Financial Officer will serve as an integral member of the executive leadership team and a direct partner to the CEO, not just owning the financial health, reporting integrity, and strategic direction of the function, but leading the team and the business to a new level of financial reporting and actionable analysis across all markets. 

With the hard work of restructuring behind us, Ayr now has an enviable balance sheet with a low debt to EBITDA ratio. The restructuring also brought new owners to Ayr, who know the cannabis space and are providing fresh capital for growth as the industry evolves legally and socially in real time, providing immediate opportunity. These circumstances take us to the next level is what we are now building, and the right CFO won't just manage the function, but will shape it. The CFO we are looking for is ready to lead, develop the team, leverage AI, and reimagine the processes and ways of working that move the business forward.  

Duties and Responsibilities 

Organization & Team Leadership 

  • Invest in and develop the existing finance and accounting team, and AI enhancement of all roles in Finance; build career paths; and add capability where the business needs it. 
  • Build on the team's existing strengths while creating an environment where people are set up to do their best work and recognized for it. 

FP&A and Business Partnership 

  • Own the operating model, budget, forecasting, and scenario planning; translate financial data into clear, decision-oriented insight for the CEO and board 
  • Partner with the CEO on strategy, resource allocation, and EBITDA improvement initiatives including pricing, mix, SG&A, COGS, and labor 

Treasury & Capital 

  • Proactively drive capital strategy, constantly evaluating the Company’s current capital structure and financings, with an eye toward continuous improvement in the efficiency and overall burden of the capital structure 
  •  Own cash planning, liquidity management, and working capital strategy; monitor debt covenants and manage lender, PE, and board communications 
  • Represent the business credibly in all external financial conversations 

M & A and Business Unit/State Evaluation

  • Spearhead all financial due diligence and “go-no go” recommendations from Finance for all potential M & A opportunities, and continuously evaluate as a partner with Operations the financial performance of all existing business units/states of operation, to identify areas for improvement or divestiture

Financial Operations & Reporting 

  • Own the monthly close, consolidation, and reporting cadence; deliver accurate KPI dashboards and variance analysis on a reliable schedule 
  • Oversee external audits, tax filings, and internal controls; establish and enforce financial policies and accounting practices across all entities 

Compliance, Tax & Controls 

  • Navigate 280E, multi-state tax compliance, and regulatory reporting with rigor; maintain SOX-light internal controls across all markets 
  • Partner with Legal, Operations, and People Ops on cross-functional risks including inventory, payroll, benefits, and regulatory exposure 

Systems & Infrastructure 

  • Leverage AI, automation, and business intelligence tools to reimagine how the finance function operates, delivers insight, and supports the needs of a growing multi-state operator

 

Qualifications  

  • 15+ years in senior finance and accounting leadership, with meaningful time in a CFO carrying full ownership of both functions. 
  • Multi-entity, multi-market operational experience in a highly regulated industry. 
  • Demonstrated ability to mature and evolve a finance and accounting function improving systems, tightening controls, and building team capability without losing continuity – including experience utilizing AI to enhance Finance functions 
  • Experience inside a private equity-backed business or working closely with PE sponsors is a meaningful advantage, includingexperience presenting clear, decision-oriented materials to the CEO, BOD and lenders. 
  • Track record of managing banking relationships, capital structure, and working capital in a complex operating environment 
  • Deep FP&A, accounting, treasury and controls experience. 
  • Lender/PE-facing experience with covenant management and investor-quality reporting; comfortable leading audits and with complex transactions. 
  • Strong operator mindset: data driven, hands-on, able to partner with peers on cost, throughput and working capital.
  • Systems fluency and commitment to data integrity.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and change management skills; builds teams and culture.
  • Industry experience in cannabis, CPG, or other highly regulated sectors strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
