The Opportunity
The Patient Access Liaison (PAL) is a highly visible role, serving as the single point of contact for the patient/caregiver and healthcare provider throughout the patient journey. The PAL is the expert in the rare patient journey and will serve in that capacity at launch within the matrix, including the Case Managers, Market Access, Site of Care, Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, and Patient Advocacy. Externally, this role will be the key liaison between the Patient, HCP and the Site of Care. Prior to commercial drug availability, this role will be responsible for the foundational build of the highly customized, HIPAA compliant case management CRM system. This will make up 80% of the PAL role prior to launch as well as collaborating with the case management lead on internal guidelines, SP guidelines and overall SOP’s.
Upon launch, this role is responsible for engaging and identifying key stakeholders on the next steps to support appropriate patients accessing therapy. All duties and responsibilities must be completed in a manner that is consistent with corporate compliance and standards for handling patient information.
What You Will Contribute
● Primary point of contact for both patients and healthcare providers (HCPs)
● Assess individual needs of the patient and develop an appropriate education and resource plan of action to empower the patient and caregiver to advocate for their needs
● Educate the patient on benefit coverage as defined by their insurance carrier, and the steps needed to gain prior authorization to ensure understanding of the process for medication access
● Educate the physician office and SOC on patient benefits and steps needed to gain prior authorization to ensure understanding of the process of medication access
● Work with site of care locations to schedule patients and resolve patient specific issues, especially around authorization and appeals
● Manage long-term relationships with patient/caregiver by developing a communication plan that meets the need of the patient/caregiver
● Provide patient education and support of site of care logistics, patient facing reimbursement education, financial support services education as well as provide support for the patient and their caregivers prior to and during treatment.
● Interact appropriately with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, ancillary staff, patients/families, referring physicians and advocacy groups to prevent and address barriers to patient access.
● Serve as the Patient Services subject matter expert in cross-functional business development initiatives and participate in the implementation of internal and patient facing resources.
● Participates in onboarding/training of new Patient Services team members
What We Seek
● Bachelor’s degree required
● 8+ years of relevant business experience in the healthcare or biotech industry
● 5+ years’ experience in field-based patient support or account management
● Strong understanding and experience in the build and operations of a HIPAA compliant case management system
● Experience working in a high-touch patient service program
● A successful track record in field reimbursement, case management, clinical education, sales leadership, or in pharmaceutical management of products that required significant payer and reimbursement involvement
● Strong knowledge and demonstrated history of access and reimbursement for buy and bill/infused pharmaceutical products
● Scientific background and ability to learn product and disease information
● Experience in product launches with rare or orphan disease
● Team leadership experience within a cross-functional matrix environment
● Ability to work in a team environment and manage with clear, strong communication
● Ability to respond within 24 hours when necessary to prevent treatment lapses
● A comfort level with incorporating A.I. and educating patients/caregivers on the benefits
● Strong analytical skills and ability to identify opportunities to employ meaningful activity
● Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal skills
● Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%
What We Will Provide To You
● The base salary range for this role is $210,000 - $230,000. The final compensation will be commensurate with such factors as relevant experience, skillset, internal equity and market factors.
