Your Role:
The Senior Calibration Technician independently performs and provides technical leadership for scheduled and unscheduled calibrations across a broad range of instruments, equipment, systems, and standards to support equipment accuracy, traceability, and cGMP compliance. The role owns assigned calibration schedules, records, standards, vendor documentation, and software data needed to preserve complete device histories and traceability to NIST standards. The position applies advanced calibration methods, measurement-science principles, and risk-based technical judgment to pipettes, balances, gauges, chart recorders, loops, and other mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, and electrical equipment. The Senior Calibration Technician leads complex troubleshooting, supports equipment repairs and qualification activities, provides subject-matter expertise for investigations and corrective and preventive actions, and contributes to audits, inspections, procedures, new projects, and calibration-program improvements. The role collaborates with Facilities and Engineering, Quality, internal departments, vendors, and contractors to support compliant and reliable operations and provides technical guidance to less experienced technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform and technically lead scheduled and unscheduled calibrations on pipettes, balances, gauges, chart recorders, loops, and other assigned equipment to maintain measurement accuracy and operational readiness.
  • Own assigned calibration schedules for equipment and standards, identify risks to on-time completion, coordinate priorities with equipment owners, and escalate potential compliance impacts.
  • Serve as an advanced user of calibration software, including Blue Mountain or an equivalent system, and maintain accurate calibration status, records, equipment histories, and system data integrity.
  • Review calibration and standards records for completeness, technical accuracy, device history, and traceability to NIST standards; coach others on documentation expectations.
  • Select and apply appropriate mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, and electrical calibration standards and test equipment for routine and complex calibration work.
  • Lead troubleshooting and repair support for assigned equipment, evaluate calibration impacts, and complete associated activities needed to restore compliant operation.
  • Develop, revise, and technically review calibration instructions and procedures using measurement-science principles, risk assessment, technical analysis, and accuracy and precision requirements.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise and technical support for quality investigations, root-cause analysis, impact assessments, corrective and preventive actions, change controls, and new projects or procedures.
  • Coordinate vendor services and maintain qualification, service, and technical documentation related to the calibration, maintenance, and repair of company standards and equipment.
  • Support and represent the calibration function during audits and inspections; lead continuous-improvement initiatives, mentor technicians, and promote regulatory, data-integrity, and safety compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education, technical training, and experience.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience performing instrument or equipment calibration, including complex troubleshooting, in a cGMP environment.
  • Advanced experience with calibration software such as Blue Mountain or an equivalent system, including record review and calibration data management.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently determine and apply appropriate calibration methods for systems, instruments, loops, and standards within established requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, review, and maintain complete and accurate GMP-compliant calibration records, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Experience working in an ISO-controlled environment and supporting audits, investigations, CAPAs, or change controls.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical degree in instrumentation, electronics, metrology, engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Seven or more years of experience as an instrumentation or calibration technician in a cGMP biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Experience administering, implementing, or improving calibration-management systems such as Cal-Man, Blue Mountain, or an equivalent platform.
  • Experience leading technical investigations, root-cause analysis, impact assessments, corrective and preventive actions, audits, or inspection readiness activities.
  • Experience mentoring technicians and applying a broad range of mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, and electrical calibration standards and test equipment to complex systems.
