AVER is seeking a Machine Learning- Data Scientist with healthcare experience to support public health initiatives with the State of Maryland. Responsibilities Include:
- Create Machine Learning models in support of a behavioral health data analytics team
- Leverage Python/R for data analysis
- Apply clustering, regression, NLP, predictive modeling to create informative Machine Learning models
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required (data science, statistics, public health, healthcare analytics, or related field).
Experience Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience creating Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning Models
- Experience with Python and/or R for data analysis and machine learning: clustering, regression, NLP, predictive modeling
- Experience with SQL/ PL/SQL and ability to pull data from a variety of data sources including MS SQL Server, Oracle and Postgres
- Knowledge of a data visualization tool Power BI, Tableau or leveraging Python/ R/ R Studio to create data visualizations
- Solid ETL skills to clean, preprocessing, and visualize data in a clear and effective way
- Collaborate cross-functionally with public health teams, clinicians, and leadership to translate data into actionable strategies for quality improvement
- Conduct audits, data validation, and performance analyses to ensure data quality, regulatory compliance, and accurate reporting
- Contribute to AI/ML-enabled digital health solutions, including mental health risk classifiers and wellness monitoring tools
- Present findings and visualizations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desired Requirements:
- Experience working with relational databases and advanced query/statistical tools
- Strong strategic thinker with the ability to translate data into actionable business insights
- Ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets effectively
- Hands on experience with Healthcare Data
- Experience with Alteryx or other ETL tools for workflow automation
- Knowledge of cloud-based ML deployment (e.g., Streamlit, Heroku, AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Background in behavioral health analytics or mental health risk detection
- Understanding of NLP for health text data (clinical notes, social media text, or survey data)
- Familiarity with CMS, NCQA, and HEDIS reporting frameworks
- Experience with Power BI paginated reports and DAX calculations
Location:
- HYBRID (1-3 days a week in Hanover, MD)
