The Corporate Accounting team at Avalara is seeking a Staff Accountant reporting to the Corporate Accounting Manager. This position is a newly created role due to company-growth. This individual will be responsible for tasks such as reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries and reports, researching variances, performing account analysis, maintaining accounting system data, and communicating with other teams.

Responsibilities:


  • Perform month-end, quarterly and annual closing activities in compliance with GAAP and Company internal control accounting policies, including the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, ad hoc analysis, and reporting
  • Reconciling cash accounts and initiating weekly bank wires
  • Prepare variance analysis and supporting schedules for various accounts
  • Preparation of requested audit documentation and analyses
  • Collaborate with different functional teams to continue to develop accounting processes and actively contribute to a disciplined financial statement close
  • Special projects as needed

Qualifications and Skills


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is preferred
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of intermediate accounting experience or more including multi-currency, and intercompany transactions with foreign entities
  • Public accounting experience is preferred
  • Experience with NetSuite (preferred) or other large ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP

  • Intermediate Excel skills (pivots, functions) as well as the ability to work with large amounts of data

  • Strong verbal and written communications
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload and act as primary owner of individual projects, analyses, or processes
