We are building cloud-based tax compliance solutions to handle every transaction in the world. We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced Director of Engineering, Innovation Labs to join our team.

Job Summary

Avalara's business is driven by constant innovation, discovering new efficiencies, incubating new products and providing customers a stream of innovations to help them capitalize and maximize their investment in our products.

We are looking for an engineering leader who can fill and sustain a pipeline of innovations, working closely with product teams and other business units to ensure balance among competing priorities like new and emerging technologies, existing product roadmaps, market opportunity, customer demand, etc.

Beyond leading engineering, this leader should have a foundation in product management and design and be ready and eager to develop a new program from scratch and get buy-in from stakeholders around the company.

Qualifications

  • A curious mind, interested in solving enterprise problems in both traditional and new ways.

  • A love for the customer and desire to improve customers' work lives.

  • A desire to collaborate with other teams, flexibility and creativity to find success in many ways.

  • A desire to learn new things and apply new learning to solving business problems.

  • Experience leading a team of dynamic and technically people through constant change.

  • Experience defining product strategy, creating a roadmap and executing it,

  • Experience with B2B enterprise SaaS customers, processes and markets.

  • Deep understanding of product development processes, as well as larger business drivers and market forces.

  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills.

  • The flexibility to pivot, the strength to say no, an understanding of when to stop a project.

  • Experience communicating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple business units.

  • Requires 6 - 8 years related experience plus at least 8 years leadership experience
