Sr. Product Manager - Licensing & Registrations (R4351)

Avalara's Product Management team is looking for a superb product leader with a strong background in delivering easy to use, flexible cloud-based solutions for businesses of all sizes. This role will own the solution for helping businesses worldwide discover and manage their business license and tax registration obligations.

You will be responsible for solidifying Avalara's product vision for being the industry leader in providing flexible solutions to customers and partners. We need someone that rolls up their sleeves and crushes execution, and delivers needle moving enhancements on schedule and can work effectively across teams in a highly matrixed organization.

While this role will start as an individual contributor you will frequently present to the executive team. Your work will directly impact thousands of businesses and end users.

Job Duties:

  • Get stuff done; put measurable incremental value into customers' hands
  • Know the subject matter – and be a valuable resource to sales teams and customers
  • Prioritize everything, writing a clear defense of your priorities that is easy to understand
  • Focus on product metrics; double-down on what is working and stop what isn't
  • Know the numbers for your product better than anyone; make smart decisions based on that
  • Obsessive attention to detail as the product owner for our agile software process (we use Atlassian tools)
  • Distill abstract technological concepts into easily understood diagrams and narratives
  • Manage project stakeholders and communicate program status
  • Identify, document and communicate technical dependencies between projects to ensure timely delivery


  • Knowledgeable: Know the challenges of licensing and registrations and the benefits of doing it right
  • Experience: Have led product teams and project teams
  • Self-directed; Interested in taking ideas and translating them into actionable results with minimal guidance or direction
  • Ownership; wanting to take full responsibility and ownership for tasks and projects
  • Quality; Continue to elevate the quality and effectiveness and impact of our work
  • Manage projects; coordinate resources and deliverables and ensure projects stay on track and deliver on all commitments
  • Be a product evangelist and SME; learn the ins and outs of our solutions
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience.
