INTERN - Tax Research Analyst

Join our Tax Content Research Team and help us build a work class repository of global tax citations. Job Duties:

  • Research and analyze state, local, and municipal sales and use tax law
  • Annotate product and service taxability decisions 
  • Cite taxability decisions using Bluebook format

Qualifications:

  • A natural curiosity about technology and an interest in innovation and learning about transaction taxes
  • A relevant bachelor degree (i..e Accounting, Finance, Economics)
  • Successful completion of the first year of law school 
  • Excellent research skills, including a logical and creative approach to drilling down to specific data to surface information that is vital to the accuracy of the published content
  • Demonstrated ability to cite legal authority using the Bluebook system of citation
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to multi-task, troubleshoot, and problem solve in a calm, analytical and methodical manner that also demonstrates a sense of urgency
  • Ability to maintain organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to use a laptop and various software, including MS Office, browsers, subscription research services, and Avalara products

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Atlassian Confluence and/or Jira
  • Participation in a law school Tax Clinic and/or actively pursuing a tax certificate 
  • Familiarity with tax returns and/or government tax compliance
