Compliance Operations Lead R4286
Reporting to the Director EMEA GRS Strategic Engagement Lead, this a Operational Leadership focused role, responsible for a team of initially 8 staff in 2 locations but expanding with business growth.
The position will lead the Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) Compliance and Registration teams with an expanding portfolio of clients across the Insurance Premium Tax sector in EMEA. Accountable for delivery of service and process efficiencies whilst collaborating with Product Development, Engineering and Global Cash Payment teams to ensure program develops to meet the needs of both client and business.
Managing the Compliance and Registration teams to ensure filing deadlines and client expectations are met. Supporting the team with regular performance reviews to establish where knowledge and training are needed as well as identify developmental opportunities for individuals.
Making decisions relating to day-to-day operations in the Compliance and Registration teams, including the planning of resources, prioritization of business requirements and planning efficiency roadmaps.
Working closely with Product and Engineering teams to aid the implementation of specific software facilitating automation of filings and registrations. Also aligned with Global Cash Payment team for client fund transfers.
Working with the Change and Continuous Improvement teams to actively encouraging communication for continuous improvement.
Serving as the primary point of contact for IPT Compliance issues.
Implementing the quality control, technical and processing standards for IPT registrations and returns
Monitor and allocate client workload across the IPT Compliance and Registration team
Ensuring Dashboards and reporting are fully up-to-date, and team members and clients understand their responsibilities and timelines for ongoing compliance
Working with GCP in respect of client fund transfers
Ensuring IPT filings and Registrations are submitted in accordance with deadlines
Building team processes to ensure KPIs are achieved
Recruitment and developing the IPT team by introducing support teams and actively encouraging CII qualifications
Monitor team performance and procedures in line with KPIs
Contributing and fostering Avalara's OPAH FOCUS culture
Keeping abreast with legislative changes ensuring knowledge is transferred to the team via training and information sharing
Providing staff with technical IPT support on more complex issues in respect of registrations, transactions and filings
Assisting the team with clients' escalations
Working with Content and the SME Team on delivering training to the Compliance and Registration Teams
Building trusted relations with new and existing third-party agents
Ongoing implementation and training of various in-house software
Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams on efficiency improvements.
Requires 6 – 8 years of related subject matter experience plus at least 4 years of prior leadership experience. (Preferably with VAT/IPT Compliance experience).
Analytical and detailed oriented, very hands-on, and well-developed execution skills.
Proven track record in leading and developing teams.
Outstanding interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication skills. Fluency in English; any other languages an advantage.
Highly results oriented and open to change. In addition, must be used to deliver high quality work under pressure, changing priorities and time constraints.
University degree in finance or business administration.
