Design Manager, Digital Experience

Job Duties

  • The Design Manager will guide the design direction for all of Avalara’s public facing web properties and digital tools
  • Provide strong, data-driven UI/UX vision, research, and strategy
  • Be a continuous advocate for strategic, first-class UX practices
  • Strong leadership and management skills to guide UI/UX designers
  • Understand the value proposition for the Avalara product(s) and services and apply design principals to meet business objectives
  • Responsible for defining prioritization of UI/UX initiatives for Digital Experience
  • Engage with marketing leaders for roadmap planning, requirement gathering and high level strategy 
  • Work with Product Owners and Stakeholders to elicit requirements, define goals and detailed workflows to create user journeys
  • Embrace agile practices including daily standup, planning, retrospective, backlog grooming
  • Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off across teams, engineering, product and creative services 
  • Create wireframes, user flows, and prototypes/mockups and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design concepts
  • Conduct user research, testing and implementation of user feedback, quantitative and qualitative 
  • Work with product owner to build AB and multivariate testing plan
  • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices and standards
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest UI/UX trends, techniques, and technologies

  • Solid multi year/multi site portfolio that represents your work product
  • Track record of end-to-end digital transformation projects
  • Adept in designing for complex business needs, various buyer personas
  • Experience with principles of design thinking
  • 5-10+ years experience managing a design team
  • Experience building and maintaining a design system 
  • Experience in mentoring career growth and providing constructive feedback 
  • Strong ability to engage with Product Owners and leadership 
  • Mastery of Sketch and Invision 
  • BS/MS in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or related
  • Experience working in an Agile/SCRUM development process
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with business and technical team members.
  • Experience in designing for the web content management systems and repeatable templates
