Warning: this is not a generic marketing manager posting. We are looking for a highly driven marketer who is up to the challenge of doing something we haven’t done before.

Customer Marketing is seeking a Marketing Manager to help define and enhance our customer’s end-to-end experience with Avalara. As a data-driven team, we are looking for someone who has a knack for quantifying the intangible or associating delayed impact and benefits that come from positive customer experiences through all channels.  This marketer will demonstrate proven abilities in identifying and executing against opportunities to unlock more value from and improve our relationship with customers, especially when natural speedbumps interfere.  This marketer will take a relationship that is currently managed almost exclusively through account managers and in-person events and steer toward a more scalable, digital model that delivers strategic programs and holds marketing accountable to our high-standard brand promise of streamlining, futureproofing and simplifying business transactions.

This function is newly consolidated to enable the focus it deserves. In the short-term, we are looking for a thought leader to audit what is in motion and propose a roadmap for future, scale customer communications, events strategy, content strategy and programs to improve customer satisfaction across the diverse industries we serve and supporting new products hitting the market.

Most importantly, this person needs to be a bridge to many different functions and be a sieve to filter how our good intentions across our matrixed organization get in the hands of customers. This individual needs to be able to prioritize and handle fire drills without emotion and drive the company toward solutions that are customer-first.

 

Job duties:

  • Create scalable marketing channels, capabilities and strategies to drive customer satisfaction.
  • Identify opportunities to delight our customers and deliver on our brand promise; also identify areas where we are far off mark from the Avalara experience desired.
  • Bring together a cross-functional steering committee to problem solve on moments to sell, moments to retain and others.
  • Identify audiences for specific treatment and develop tools and programs to deliver.
  • Support data and analytics visibility into the areas you oversee and identify KPIs that provide directional guidance on impact at time of program and impact overtime with various customer segments.
  • Challenge the status quo – the past will not dictate the future.  

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working across functions (i.e. product, analytics, other internal teams) collaboratively to deliver actions and impact.
  • Agile marketer who is a quick study and interested in / capable of synthesizing vast amounts of information to bubble up impact and meaning to the customer.
  • Bias to action. See something; say and do something about it.
  • Manage through ambiguity – help carve scope and define function as you build.
  • Ability to present and manage up to senior stakeholders, especially ones who may not have the same goals. Know when and how to push back.
  • Proven experience shifting between high-level strategy building and self-driving mini milestones that will get us to our top-line goal.
  • Experience working with product marketing, B2B SaaS, diverse marketing experience (at least 5-7 years)
