Director, Executive Communications

The Director of Executive Communications and Special Projects, in partnership with PR, internal communications, and other brand communications team members will be responsible for tier-one programs and projects headed by our executive team members, including our CEO, CFO, CP(roduct)O, CT(echnology)O, and COO, with a primary focus on our CEO and COO. In many ways, this person will shape and deliver the internal and external platforms of Avalara’s executive team, ensuring they deliver unique value and work in concert with one another.

This includes developing strategic messaging for internal and external presentations, building communications strategies in support of major change initiatives, and providing editorial and writing support for significant internal communications.

This position is based in Seattle.


  • Manage and plan internal and external communication priorities for key executive team members. Work closely with PR and internal communications teams to deliver these messages through appropriate channels.
  • Lead planning and development for marquee Avalara events, including the annual company kick-off meeting (January) and the CRUSH event series. This role requires a deep understanding of our business goals, in the short and long term, and close collaborative partnership with key executive team members.
  • Lead the annual business plan project. Accompanying a vision document (Manifesto), this person will be responsible for the annual update of the annual business plan and strategic objectives for all Avalara employees.
  • Play a key role in supporting cross-functional teams like employee experience, global external and employer brand, awareness marketing, and others to achieve goals.
