Role Overview

Avalar's IMO (Integration Management Office) is looking for a talented Project Manager to manage mergers & acquisition projects including post acquisition integration and onboarding. The role is critical to ensuring that business case synergies are achieved and that integration risks are minimized. The role is responsible for the coordination and management of multiple cross-functional streams of work in the integration project. The project will support the corporate development function in its execution of its strategic plans.

As a senior leader the Project Manager - Integration is responsible for the identification and resolution of program level issues and the mitigation of risks where they pose a significant threat to success, always with a focus on delivering value to the business.

Essential responsibilities include:

Delivery (What)

  • Facilitate stakeholder conversations and drive consensus based decision-making in program and project governance forums

  • Understand the integration business case and design a project or program structure to delivery deal model benefits

  • Build and own Avalara's Integration Playbook ensuring key milestones are met and dependencies managed

  • Mobilize Project team resources, business and support teams to achieve objectives

  • Actively manage the project - log and take appropriate action to mitigate risks

  • Lead on identifying dependencies and ensuring that they are managed successfully and that both sides of dependency understand obligation

  • Manage the project plan to ensure it stays within tolerance and seek to overdeliver on budget, quality and performance

  • Identify additional opportunities for business value delivery

  • Manage project costs and matrixed delivery resources as appropriate

  • Stakeholder Management and Delivery of Operating Model (How)

  • Implement and lead the relevant project structures, forums and stakeholder networks

  • Act as the primary point of contact for integration activities for Avalara and the acquired company

  • Manage relationship with business leads to ensure ongoing awareness, buy-in and shared ownership

  • Ensure project success criteria are clearly understood and signed up to by Avalara Functional Leaders

  • Act as the single point of contact and escalation for all project issues related to the M&A

  • Ensure realistic expectations are maintained through effective stakeholder engagement and management

  • Location

    Ideal candidate based in Andover, MA or other US based S+N office locations. Will also consider remote candidates based in the US in Eastern Time Zone.


    Bachelor's Degree

    Licenses/ Certifications

    Project and Program Methodology certification strongly preferred


    6-8 years proven experience of leading integration projects preferably in the technology or tax related field


  • Highly organized and able to manage complex, cross functional Program of work with in depth understanding of project issues as required

  • Flexible with ability to deliver within short deadlines

  • Ability to build key relationships inside / outside to achieve success

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to apply methodology whilst maintaining a pragmatic approach in a dynamic environment

  • Team motivator and collaborator

  • Must lead by example

  • Demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Fluent English is a must other European languages highly desirable

  • Travel Requirements

    10% - 20% ; Domestic and international depending on stage of project

    (all travel is limited per company COVID travel policy)
