Engineering Internships - Summer 2021

Avalara is looking for a number of interns for our Summer 2021 program. Beginning in early May through late August to early September, interns will support our Engineering business in 4 functions: Avatax, Security, Registrations, and Returns. Interns will be provided with a detailed, significant 12-week project to support these functions through deep collaboration with their direct manager, an assigned mentor and their broader project team. Interns will have the opportunity to work with a variety of disciplines, including C#, .Net, React, Javascript, and AWS, and will demonstrate their progress in a final presentation shared with the broader Avalara org.

Job Duties

  • Follow strategic direction from assigned manager and mentor to achieve project deliverables
  • Collaborate with assigned team to identify gaps and propose solutions
  • Partner with fellow interns to attend and participate in internship program events and activities
  • Participate on an agile team – full lifecycle and full stack – including design, development, testing, planning, backlog grooming and support
  • Identify and implement best practices for coding as well as development processes


  • Experience with any of the following languages: C#, .Net, React, Javascript, AWS
  • Desire to join Avalara as a full-time Engineer after completion of the internship
  • Willingness to dive in and identify root causes and develop creative solutions


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior internship experience is a plus
  • Pursuing a degree in computer science or related field
