Role Summary
The Director of Data & Analytics at Asplundh Tree Expert, LLC is responsible for defining and executing the enterprise strategy for data, analytics, and insights to drive measurable business value. Reporting to the CIO, this role provides both strategic leadership and operational oversight of the organization’s data platforms, analytics capabilities, governance practices, and data talent.
The Director partners closely with business and technology leaders across the enterprise to ensure data assets are trusted, secure, accessible, and effectively leveraged to support decision-making, operational excellence, and Asplundh’s ongoing digital transformation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
- Define and own the enterprise Data & Analytics (D&A) vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with business and technology objectives.
- Serve as the executive authority for enterprise data and analytics assets, ensuring delivery of measurable business outcomes.
- Partner with functional and operational leaders to understand business needs and prioritize data initiatives.
- Champion a data-driven culture by promoting data literacy and analytics adoption across the organization.
Data Platforms & Architecture
- Oversee the design, development, and evolution of enterprise data and analytics platforms.
- Provide leadership and architectural direction across modern platforms including Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, and Oracle Analytics (or equivalent).
- Define and maintain data architecture standards covering data warehousing, data lakes, integration, analytics, and semantic models.
- Partner with IT leadership to evaluate, implement, and optimize cloud-based analytics platforms.
- Ensure platforms support self-service analytics, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled use cases while meeting security and cost expectations.
Analytics, Insights & Innovation
- Lead the delivery of analytics, reporting, and data products providing descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive insights.
- Enable advanced analytics and AI-driven use cases that improve safety, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
- Establish consistent delivery models, tools, and best practices for analytics solutions.
Data Governance, Quality & Trust
- Establish and operate an enterprise data governance and operating model.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, traceability, and usability.
- Embed security, privacy, risk, and compliance requirements into all data and analytics processes.
- Build and maintain trust in enterprise data used for reporting and automated decision-making.
Team & Operations
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing data and analytics team.
- Define roles, responsibilities, and career paths while fostering collaboration and continuous learning.
- Manage budgets, vendors, and resource allocation for the data and analytics function.
- Establish KPIs to measure effectiveness, maturity, and business value.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven leadership experience influencing senior stakeholders and leading cross-functional teams.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate operational goals into data solutions.
- Hands-on leadership experience with Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Oracle Analytics, or comparable platforms.
- Strong understanding of cloud-based data platforms, analytics, governance, and AI-enabled capabilities.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, STEM, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in data and analytics roles, including leadership of enterprise-scale initiatives.
- Demonstrated success delivering measurable business value through data and analytics solutions.
First 12–18 Month Success Profile
- Establish a clear, enterprise-wide Data & Analytics strategy and roadmap aligned with Asplundh’s business and technology priorities.
- Assess and stabilize existing data and analytics platforms, defining a future-state architecture leveraging Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, and Oracle Analytics as appropriate.
- Implement or strengthen enterprise data governance, including data ownership, stewardship, quality standards, and decision-making forums.
- Build trusted executive and business stakeholder relationships, demonstrating early value through prioritized analytics and reporting use cases.
- Deliver measurable business outcomes through improved reporting, operational insights, and data-driven decision support.
- Evaluate data and analytics talent, clarify roles and responsibilities, and build a high-performing, collaborative team.
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for data quality, platform adoption, analytics usage, and business value realization.
- Promote data literacy and self-service analytics capabilities across corporate and operational teams.
- Partner closely with the CIO and IT leadership to align data initiatives with broader digital transformation efforts.
