Job Scope – Material Handler / Yard Person
 
Position Overview
 
The Material Handler / Yard Person will be responsible for maintaining the yard, organizing materials and equipment, and providing support to crews in the field. This role ensures that materials and equipment are readily available, safely stored, and properly maintained to support efficient operations.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Material Management
               •             Receive, order, and inventory materials as needed.
               •             Stack, organize, and put away materials in designated areas.
               •             Prepare and load/unload materials for crews.
               •             Track usage and report shortages or damages.
 
Yard Maintenance
               •             Maintain yard appearance (grass cutting, weed control, trash removal).
               •             Keep storage and laydown areas clean, organized, and safe.
               •             Ensure equipment and trailers are parked in designated areas.
 
Equipment & Transportation
               •             Safely transport trailers, tools, and equipment to and from the yard and job sites.
               •             Perform basic checks on equipment before use (tires, lights, fluids, etc.).
               •             Support crews by delivering materials and equipment as requested.
 
Field Support
               •             Deliver materials to crews in the field as needed.
               •             Assist with loading/unloading materials at job sites.
               •             Communicate with supervisors and crews to ensure timely delivery and support.
 
 
Qualifications & Skills
               •             Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
               •             Ability to operate forklifts, trailers, and yard equipment safely.
               •             Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
               •             Physical ability to lift and move materials.
               •             Dependable, safety-minded, and able to work independently.
 
 
Reporting Structure
               •             Reports directly to the Yard Supervisor / Superintendent.
               •             Works closely with field crews and project managers to ensure material readiness.
