Utility Meter Technician (Travel Team)
Grid One Solutions is seeking a full-time Utility Meter Technician to join our organization supporting a project with Eversource within the Massachusetts service area.
Grid One Solutions is seeking candidates that are local to join our deployment team.
As a Utility Meter Technician, you will perform the change out of existing electric meters and assume responsibility for the safe operation of a company vehicle, equipment, and tools. Perform up to standards within time frames outlined by the Field Supervisor and Project Manager. In addition, you will learn how to utilize the computer system to plan and complete your daily work.
Job Type: Full-Time +, Non-Exempt
Pay:
- $25.00 - $30.00 per hour based on experience. With regular performance reviews.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Perform change out of existing electric utility meters.
- No experience is necessary, but utility meter installation and utility meter reading are preferred.
- Ability to travel Monday through Friday within Eversource in Massachusetts service area.
- Overtime hours may at times be required.
- Demonstrate safe, high-quality work practices in a team atmosphere.
- Performs up to standards within time frames outlined by Field Supervisor and Project Manager
- Identify and report to management all hazardous working conditions and specifically those that prohibit the safe exchange of meters.
- Commitment to customer service and responding to the needs of internal and external customers in a professional manner.
- Ability to pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and the requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with little supervision.
- Ability to walk between 6 to 8 miles per day.
- Be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day,
- Ability to read meters and willingness to learn to operate new equipment and implement new procedures.
- Strong directional skills: the ability to read and understand maps via GPS instruments and websites, i.e., Garmin’s, Google Maps, Waze, etc.
- Computer and smartphone literate.
- Independently manage time and workload to meet deadlines.
- This is a minimum 40-hour workweek with Saturdays considered inclement weather make-up days.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Mechanical and/or electrical experience preferred.
- Experience in the use of hand and power tools.
- 3+ years of driving experience with minimal non-moving violations.
License & Certifications:
- A Valid Driver's License is required.
- Must have a clean Driving Record, free of any moving violations within the three years and without any suspensions (for any reason); minimal non-moving violations (less than three within the last five years)
Travel Requirements:
- Must be able to travel Monday through Friday within the Eversource Massachusetts service area.
- IRS Milage to drive personal vehicles from home to training or show up location. While working outside of your local division, for training and to gain experience.
- Company-paid hotel room, 1 employee per room – no sharing required.
- Weekly per diem
