Senior Benefits Analyst
The Senior Benefits Analyst analyzes, implements, and administers Asplundh’s employee benefits programs. The role focuses on evaluating health and welfare plans, conducting market research, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing strategic recommendations that balance cost efficiency with employee satisfaction. This position partners closely with HR and Finance, serves as a subject matter expert to leadership, manages vendor relationships, and uses data-driven insights to enhance the employee experience. Strong analytical skills and deep knowledge of benefits regulations are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Plan Administration & Compliance
- Oversee daily administration of health and welfare benefits, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations (COBRA, FMLA, ACA).
- Prepare required reporting, including Form 5500s, Summary Annual Reports, and audit support.
- Lead the Benefits Help Desk structure and team.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze benefits data, monitor claims activity, and prepare reports for budgeting, forecasting, and trend identification.
- Support development, documentation, and updates to benefits budgets through analysis and collaboration with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Evaluate benefits competitiveness using market benchmarks.
Vendor Management
- Partner with brokers and third party vendors to optimize cost, service quality, and overall plan value.
Strategic Planning
- Recommend enhancements to benefits programs to maintain competitive positioning.
- Research and evaluate alternative health and welfare plan designs, considering cost, value, vendor capabilities, and ROI.
- Assist in reviewing and designing benefit plans to maximize value for employees and the company.
- Support development of benefits communication materials in partnership with internal and external resources.
Project Management
- Lead key initiatives such as open enrollment, system implementations, and occasional M&A related benefits integration.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and collaborate with cross?functional teams to implement changes.
Management & Employee Support
- Provide direct support to employees regarding benefit programs and coordinate with vendors and internal partners.
- Respond to ongoing and ad hoc reporting needs, ensuring timely and accurate information.
- Research legal and regulatory compliance issues and recommend appropriate action plans.
- Perform additional project work as assigned.
Core Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, BA, Finance, or related field
- 7+ years of progressive experience in employe benefits administration, analysis, and strategy
- Advanced knowledge of US benefits regulations and compliance
- Proven experience leading benefits initiatives
- Strong analytical and financial acumen
- Demonstrated vendor management expertise
