JOB SUMMARY
The Athletic Coach instructs student athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training
necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. S/he also instructs students to formulate moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-
confidence.

Organization and Communication
- Sends information/correspondence to players and parents
- Conducts orientation programs for parents, athletes, and assistant coaches
- Works with Principal or Principal’s designee to develop non-league schedule and confirm league schedule
- Develops procedures and establishes open communication with parents and athletes to address any issues or concerns related to the team
Administrative
- Works with Athletic Director to prepare budget for the sport being coached
- Manages the ordering, inventory, repair, and cleaning of all sport-specific equipment
- Works with Principal or Principal’s designee to secure officials for non-league home games
- Works with Principal or Principal’s designee to make transportation arrangements for away games
- Ensures completion of yearly physical exam and insurance coverage for each athlete
- Works with Athletic Director, Counselors, and Athletic Office to confirm both residential and academic eligibility of each athlete
- Distributes team rosters, contest schedules, and contest locations to all players and parents/guardians
- Monitors athlete class attendance, behavior, and academic progress
- Works with Athletic Director to establish set practice times and locations
- Supervises and directs activities of any assistant coaches
- Ensures quality, effectiveness, and validity of any oral or written correspondence with the media
- Works with Athletic Director to determine and procure any team awards
Training and Preparation of Athletes
- Holds fair and equitable tryouts
- Provides all team rules and regulations to team members
- Provides training on all rules and skills of the specific sport
- Provides training on physical conditioning and injury prevention
- Institutes, teaches, and monitors all drills
- Provides appropriate sport specific tactical training
- Provides positive motivation
- Disciplines players as necessary in accordance with team, SCIAA, TSSAA OR TMSSA
- Selects, directs, and monitors activities of any team managers
- Confers with medical personnel for proper approval prior to allowing any injured player to return to athletic activity

- Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, the Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements including antiracism, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Competencies:
- Knowledge of overall operation of an athletic program
- Minimum educational level:
- College-level Child Psychology Course or previous work with youth
- Experience required:
- Previous Coaching Experience or College level or higher playing experience in the sport being coached
- Physical requirements:
- Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height
- Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping)
- Demonstrate normal depth perception
- Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone
- See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aides
- Work authorization requirements:
- Clear the Department of Justice background screening
- Authorized to work in the United States
The rate for this position is $21hr.
