JOB SUMMARY

 

The Student Leader - Expanded Learning Programs is aimed at current high school students who demonstrate exemplary performance and attitude and are interested in supporting the school’s academic program.  Student Leaders support the after-school program in partnership and under the supervision of the After School Director/After School Educator to provide a high-quality, personalized education program for students during the after-school program.  
  
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Support Expanded Learning Program systems/procedures and help support student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
  • Tutor students in the after school program, especially intervention and acceleration for students below grade level
  • Support a school-wide culture of high expectations that includes college preparation for all students
  • Help the Expanded Learning Program provide students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress
  • May help track critical student information and assist in maintaining accurate student records, including attendance, in accordance with Aspire procedures
  • Assist in identify unique student needs and collaborates with other team members and outside service providers to  address learning challenges
  • Support Expanded Learning staff in leading student activities within the Expanded Learning program setting (arts-based programming, sports and athletics, STEAM/STEM programming, ect.)
  • Serve as a role model for students by demonstrating Aspire’s commitment to our scholars to be prepared and empowered to build a fulfilling and liberated future for themselves and their communities. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned



QUALIFICATIONS

 

Competencies:
  • Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles
  • Ability and willingness to implement Aspire Instructional Guidelines and Best Practices
  • Ability and willingness to reflect and improve
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents and community 

 

Minimum educational level:
  • High School Senior or 130 credits of high school; 
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA

 

Experience required:
  • Experience working with students as in an education setting preferred



Physical requirements:
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  •  Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

 

Work authorization requirements: 
  • Valid work Permit
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Provide health (TB) clearance (renewed every four years)



WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics are representative of those in a normal office, classroom/school setting which one might encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Compensation:
Aspire offers its employees a competitive salary and benefits, including paid time off, 100% core health benefits coverage, life insurance/long-term disability, participation in a CA or TN state retirement plan, tuition reimbursement plan, and adoption assistance program. Hourly pay is $21.50-$31.32
