The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant will perform services and consultation with teachers at a school site, provide activities designed to develop language skills and articulation skills, including speech production, vocalization and social pragmatics in students with speech/language disorders. Other duties may include administrative work, meetings, and collaborations with staff and parent.

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct speech-language screenings using a variety of screening tools and techniques
  • Follow documented therapy plans
  • Document student progress in Welligent system
  • Prepare therapy materials for use in pullout small group setting or in classroom setting
  • Adapt or modify instructional materials as determined by student need and abilities for teacher-use in the classroom.
  • Consult with general ed teachers to co-plan instructional materials or implement strategies
  • Track performance data using progress monitoring tools and report progress on IEP goals
  • Communicate progress to parents, teachers and Speech Language Pathologist in regular meetings, phone conversations and progress notes
  • Participate in IEP process; attend meetings when appropriate and attend parent conferences
  • Creates and maintains safe, positive environment for students
  • Collaborates with members of IEP Team, Special Education team and School site teams
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

  • Speech, language, hearing development, disorders and rehabilitation
  • Articulation disorders and rehabilitation
  • Effective record keeping and procedures
  • Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles
  • Ability and willingness to implement students’ IEPs
  • Ability and willingness to reflect and improve
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions; ability and good judgment to take initiative to modify activities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with general education and special education colleagues, parents and community
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter in a new organization
  • Ability to excel as a member of a team
  • Ability to work with an ethnically and economically diverse student body

Required Education, Credentials and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree and completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Program
  • 1+ year working with students with special needs in an educational setting
  • Registration as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant with the State of California
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Special Education Experience
  • Spanish bilingual preferred, but not required
